Ha and refugees all around the world struggle with many challenges with being bullied. Ha has been called “Pancake face” (Lai 197). Being called a name can make a person feel less confident about themselves. Refugees also struggle with making friends. “I miss my friends..”, “Wish I’d stayed there.. Rather than being here, safe, but without friends” (Brice). With no one wanting to be their friend could be really hard on them because they’ve already been through a lot with leaving their home, friends, and family. Another way Ha has been made fun of is, “I now understand when they make fun of my name” (Lai 168). The kids at her school were following her saying Ha Ha Ha, laughing making fun of her name. The kids also “... pull my arm hair, laughter” (Lai 145-146). Refugees and Ha should not be getting …show more content…
Ha starts making friends at school because in the book it says, “But smiles appear instead” (Lai 184). The refugees from the article Children of War are also making friends because it says, “Some don’t know where Bosnia is, but they’re really nice and try to help” ( Brice). With kids being nice and helpful could make them feel more comfortable with trying to fit in at school. Another reason the refugees and Ha are feeling safe with kids not bullying is, “ I like it better...people don’t judge you by your religion” (Brice). Some kids bully refugees around the world because of their religion. When the kids at her school were not bullying her that made her feel safe knowing she could express her religion. Ha and the refugees experienced many struggles with starting new and trying to feel back again. When they started school and figured out that they aren’t going to get bullied, people are nice to them, and they don’t get made fun of for their religion. As a result to all the evidence the refugees and Ha are starting to feel back
Argumentative Essay Why do we still have an immigration issue? After all most of the immigrants live in the fear of being deported and torn away from their families. Even though they are just trying to live the American dream. This is not how our ancestors were treated since after all America is a country founded by immigrants. So undocumented immigrants should get a pathway to citizenship in America.
The Bethel School District had suspended the respondent, Matthew N. Fraser for the span of three school days as well as the school decided to revoke his name from a roster of potential speaking at special ceremonies such as graduation. The respondent’s parent reciprocated action by bringing their child’s infraction of his first Amendment right. This includes his freedom of speech.
Bullying is a harmful thing that nobody should be a victim or attacker of. In the book “Lord of the Flies” the main characters are Piggy, Jack, Simon, and Ralph. Piggy looks different than the other boys and has issues that affect his lifestyle. The articles “Bullying in Early Adolescence by Dorothy L. Espelage.” and “Online Identity by CommonLit Staff.” supports the idea that having the issues he has can cause bullying by other youth to make themselves feel better and for entertainment.
The biggest fear that many students around the world attempt to avoid is to be physically and emotionally damaged. The goal is to blend in with well-respected classmates and to fit in with others. Although, to those who do not achieve this goal, they are usually targeted by an immature bully. However, an average bully is able to create a more fierce bully within an innocent victim. Perhaps a monster is enraged and caged inside of everyone.
Mexican Americans have immigrated and emigrated to Americas since before the Mexican American war of 1848. Immigration of Chicanos has been happening for a very long time, but the only difference is that it is now becoming a problem. Before the border was created Mexicans would legally cross to America, with no immigration problems, until 1924. When the border was created, Mexicans and Chicanos no longer has access to their old Chicano lives. Children continue to illegally be brought to America in search of better opportunities.
In spite of the tribulations mentioned prior, refugees lives will turn “back again” as they commence to feel a sense of normality once they have attained the skill to become resilient towards said tribulations. Resilience channels itself in many forms, such as standing up to a tormentor. This is how Ha becomes resilient when she attains the intrepidity to defend herself against a tormentor that attends her school, which she denominates as”Pink Boy” due to the actuality that he is an albino. This young man has ridiculed Ha predominantly for her physical appearance, which has humbled her to a significant extent. The tormenting involved verbal derogation and invasion of personal space.
Illegal immigration has been a sensitive topic to discuss over the years. Most of these immigrants come into the United States in look for a better life, escaping the poverty from their country of origin. Many people are against illegal workers coming into the country, others are greatly benefited by their work. Many opportunistic employers have targeted these “day laborers”, called by Abel Valenzuela Jr., the author of the article “Immigrant Day Laborers”, to take advantage of their work. Immigrant workers are an important part of the U.S. economy and should be benefited by the work they do.
The estimated number of refugees leaving their own country since World War II is one hundred million ("Refugee”). A refugee is a person who has left their country because of fear of their safety due to violence, race, religion, or war. Supporting and solving today’s refugee crisis is especially controversial because of the current events, financing, and security issues. ("Refugee Facts”). Climate change and natural disasters sometimes cause people to leave their homes or countries.

Bullies are usually stronger and victims are usually perceived as weaker and unable to protect themselves.” (Masterson,1997) Bullying expands in many aspects of everyday life; from schoolchildren and teenagers, to adults , working environments and even spouses and family members. Considering that the first signs of bullying appear among schoolchildren, we should examine it in its infancy, that is, bullying in early years and school life, which in turn becomes with the passage of years violence and in some cases even crime. As far as bullying at school is concerned, “one definition is that a student is being bullied or victimized, when he or she is exposed, repeatedly and over time , to negative actions on the part of one or more other students.”
The United States of America, being a country founded by immigrants, is known all over the world as the land of great opportunities. People from all walks of life travelled across the globe, taking a chance to find a better life for them and their family. Over the years, the population of immigrants has grown immensely, resulting in the currently controversial issue of illegal immigration. Illegal immigrants are the people who have overstayed the time granted on their US, visa or those who have broken the federal law by crossing the border illegally. Matt O’Brien stated in his article “The government thinks that 10.8 million illegal immigrants lived in the country in January 2009, down from a peak of nearly 12 million in 2007.”(Para, 2) While some argue that illegal immigrants burden the United States of America and its economy, others believe that they have become essential and are an important part of the US, economy.
Some countries are open and actively working to promote well-being through charity and acts to achieve justice. In opposition some countries are not willing to take on the responsibilities of letting displaced people into their borders. After seeing the lifestyle displaced people face each day the film encouraged me to do what I can to spread awareness about the unsteady world refugees face. I know that I would have a difficult time living like a displaced person and I cannot begin to image the fear, sadness, and struggles each day brings. Although, as an individual I do not feel I can achieve much impact, I do believe that sharing the messages presented in the film will bring greater understanding to others and from there a stronger force can be achieved.

A refugee is a person who has been forced to leave their home country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster. There are many different types of refugees, these include refugees who are escaping war, social discrimination, racial discrimination, religious persecution, those who are seeking aid after a natural disaster, political unrest, and those who fear for their lives and the lives of their family. These people are given refugee status and are placed in designated refugee camps across the country where they are supposed to be cared for and educated, but this is not happening. Bullying is defined as repeated oppression, physical or psychological of a less powerful individual by a more powerful individual, people or group. It consists of three main types of abuse which are physical, verbal and emotional. Bullying in schools is a common and worldwide spread problem that can have critical and negative implications on the general school climate as well as on the right of students to study in a safe and secure environment without fear. Many people believe that bullying is part of life, happens in all schools and so it’s not an issue to worry about and that it lets individuals know what life is all about as it toughens them but in reality bullying is a detrimental problem that affects most school going children and teenagers physically, emotionally and socially.
