The ultimate role of the United States government should be to protect the citizens of the United States. The federal government allows citizens to be ensured of their safety through the making of laws. Laws provide safety to United States citizens amended in the Constitution. The Constitution ultimately allocates how the government is run and gives everyone an equal amount of powers. No one person is above the law, no matter how authoritative they are. Gun deaths are more and more prevalent, making students, parents, teachers, and staff worrisome of attending school on a daily basis. As the government is emphasizing the banning of books and TikTok, yet still not putting enough emphasis on the frightening amount of school shootings happening. This could include looking into gun laws or examining mental health's involvement. By putting regulations and finding the stimulus of the issue is a step in the right direction. Students, employees, and teachers/professors should not be apprehensive about going to school; school should be a place of learning and engaging with other students. Foreign policy is “programs and policies that determine America’s relations with other nations and foreign countries” (“Unit 4” , Chapter 14). The three purposes of the American policy are security, prosperity, and creation of a better world (“Unit 4” , Chapter 14). The United States federal government should have the most power relating to foreign policy to better the citizens well-being and security. Allocating the federal government to protect us with security including threats made by terrorists. Notably, after the 9/11 terrorist attack in New York City at the Twin Towers, greater security was put into effect. Specifically at airports, where they added TSA and implemented extensive guidelines to protect citizens’ traveling. Before the 9/11 attack airports did not have this strict of security and could go right through it with not much hold up (Gerace 1). Whether this includes working with other countries' militaries to put our country in the best hands during a war or treaties with other countries. Deterrence was used for possible Soviet aggressions against the nation and its allies (“Unit 4” , Chapter 14). This method was used to persuade the opponents that the threat was real.
