Across the world abusing prescription drugs causes more deaths than street drugs do combined (“International Statistics”). Prescription drugs are so easy to get ahold of and so easy to get addicted to. The misuse of prescription drugs have gotten out of hand. These drugs can cause unintentional overdoses easily. The misuse of prescription drugs can lead to addiction, affect the health of users in a dramatic way, and even cause death.

Drugs are substances that trigger temporary changes in the body which may result in such a pleasurable and relaxing effect. Some of the types can slow down the nervous system’s action, while other types can have the exact opposite effect; spurring the nervous system into rapid action. Drugs are connected to cravings or addiction since a person’s body starts yearning for drugs after he or she has taken it for a while. Drugs affect consciousness significantly! They may cause people to hear or see things that aren’t real (hallucinations), experiencing mood swings, or may even distort people’s perceptions. Such drugs that affect consciousness are: depressants, stimulants, and hallucinogens. In this essay, all three drugs will be discussed.
I personally think that the film should include more risks that a woman takes or goes through during her pregnancy, such as drinking alcohol, or HELLP syndrome. A guest speaker, Jennifer Deane, mention that she used to smoke, and she often sobered herself up at a local bar. I thought it was brave of her that she told the whole class the truth of what she did during her pregnancy. Many women share limited about their pregnancy of what substances they put to feed their fetuses. The textbook mentioned that alcohol and tobacco are the some of the most harmful substance to the fetus. Our history has plenty of technologies and other products that have risen in the past five or six centuries, but now have changed a bit that might not be good. Almost everyone has some type of habit in their lives that they deal with and some are worst than others, but a habit can lead many down the wrong path if the habit is used extensively. The book that I read was Forces of Habit and it deals with the history of alcohol to drugs that we know of today. I chose this quote because it shows how a drug can make such a big impact and be something that everyone needs or at least what many people believe to need. The positives that many people see as the cure to something that would take years of hard moral training now being able to take and go on with their lives, but the negatives are not pronounced to the people that are taking soma and are putting people into dangerous situations.
