2.6 months of learning is lost per year because students forget what they learned over the summer (Priddy). The traditional school calendar, which gives students three months of relaxation and no education, is having negative effects as the years go on. Year-round school, 45 days of learning followed by 15 days off, would provide students a less stressful year and other benefits as well. There are currently 3,253 year-round schools in the United States such as, Beecher Community and Flint High School. California currently has 130 year-round schools making it the leader in America (“Year-Round School Education Statistics”).
1. Introduction 1.1 Background Teenage pregnancy is the pregnancy of a young woman, usually between the age of 13 and 19 years. The rate of teenage pregnancy is among the highest in the world. Teenage pregnancy is a major problem in South African rural areas and townships that may impact the future of a young woman. Children as young as 12 years fall pregnant due to social problems in townships.
Teen pregnancies have become much more common with the oversexualized views of our millennial era, and often times young parents cannot handle the stress of the child. In 2013 alone, 273,105 babies were born to women aged 15–19 years. If abortion is not their number one choice, they will most likely turn to adoption, leaving the population problem still in existence. People often use the common phrase “adoption is always an option” but are unaware that there are currently “397,122 children are living without permanent families in the foster care system (Congressional Coalition On Adoption Institute, CCAI). There are too many children, and not enough eligible parents around to take care of them.
Parents should always be able to prepare their teens for the worst no matter how uncomfortable the situation might be. While parents are more worried of keeping their health private, I think teens would like to have those rights too when it comes to something personal like deciding about their sexual life. Medical health Centers should allow young teens to make their own decision when it comes to their personal sexual life and non-threating issues. Allowing young teens to decide for themselves not only creates them to be responsible for their actions but also to boost of confidence when talking to a doctor. Some teens don’t always tell the doctor everything because they know the moment they tell something their parents will know.
Each year 850,000 adolescent girls become pregnant. 41.3% of pregnancy are teens 15-19 years old and 20% of abortions are teens. With the growing use of birth control in teens in the last decade teen pregnancy rates are steadily going down. The United States has the highest teen pregnancy rates, but we also have the most resources to fix this problem. When used correctly, birth control is 99.7% effective.
There are 900,000 teenage (between ages 15 and 19) pregnancies a year, with 78% of them being unplanned (Richards). A large percentage of these unintentional pregnancies could have been prevented if those teenagers had been properly informed. Instead, programs continue to fail students. In addition to that, 4 million teenagers contract a sexually transmitted disease each year (Richards). These diseases can vary from a mild infection that is easily treatable to an infection or virus that can lead to infertility, or even worse, is life threatening such as HIV.
Also, it is apparent to see that having low socioeconomic status can decrease the self-esteem of an adolescent. The second student I observed was a junior named Allison Whitehead. She is a cheerleader for EGHS and had both parents in her life. Her parents had three children and she was the middle child. While speaking to her I was able to identify that she was from an authoritative household.
Not soon after, she became poor and went into poverty. Teen pregnancy is a worldwide problem and needs to be addressed. Teen pregnancy is becoming more common. According to 94% of US adults,“Teen motherhood is considered ‘a bad thing for our society’” (Mollborn). This explains how unprepared teens are and how little they know about the choices they are making.
Hope is needed more than judgment at this this time. Do not accuse them whatever they did. Try to help them find hope in their life again. Some parents are afraid of asking teens about suicide because the idea of suicide may appear in their teen’s head. Giving teens a chance to open up and talk about their feelings will help relieve some of stress and depression.
Teenage pregnancy is the condition of being pregnant of adolescence aged 10 to 19. Those who are affected are the girl herself up to the national society. The victims of teenage pregnancy are the girl herself, her child, her parents and relatives and the national society as a whole. It will also probably make her economically vulnerable. Teen pregnancy is a communal problem, a family problem, and a personal problem all rolled into one.
Imagine how much that number will go up if it becomes illegal (pause). Sometimes it 's the only way that the woman will be able to live, sometimes it 's unplanned teen pregnancy and they can 't raise or support a child, sometimes it 's not the woman 's fault and they were raped and sexually abused. 78% of teen pregnancies are unplanned, 49% of pregnancies that happen in the U.S. every year are unintended. Half of those women will
A lady 's best reproductive years are in her 20s. Fertility decreases gradually in the 30s, especially after age 35. Every month that she tries, a healthy, fertile 30-year-old lady has a 20% possibility of getting pregnant. That implies that for each 100 vibrant 30-year-old ladies attempting to get pregnant in 1 cycle, 20 will be effective and the other 80 will need to try again. By age 40, a woman 's chance is under 5% for every cycle, so less than 5 out of each 100 ladies are expected to be effective every month.
