This paper discusses the reasons behind the necessity of restricting gun possession on campuses. On the first hand, guns on campuses aren’t to be allowed because students aren’t mature enough to handle the possession of a gun. On the other hand, allowing guns at universities may increase suicide rate. Moreover, guns on campuses will obviously distract the learning environment because the ones who possess guns will always threaten students.
Gun laws are constantly changing rapidly, but the latest issue concerning them is whether or not legislation should allow guns on college and university campuses. Throughout the last couple of years, guns have become a strong topic all over the United States, because they are coming into the possession of the wrong people. Many students and some teachers feel strongly about this topic, many are concerned about issues it may cause. But, some do not consider how unsafe this world is, and bringing guns to campuses isn’t going to make it easier or harder for people to attain them. Firearms should be prohibited based on the crime rates at college campuses, the fact the police take ample amounts of time to arrive on scenes, many students cannot defend themselves in certain situations, and the second amendment states that anyone over the age of 18 has the right to bear arms.
Gun Control keep School Safe The 21st century has brought out a lot of violence not only in the communities in general but it also puts the lives of students in school in danger. Individuals should be allowed to carry a concealed weapon if they choose to in order to be able to feel safe weather the person is a teacher or a student. The right to carry Teachers in todays society should have the right to obtain permit and carry a weapon to school if they choose to.
The Fight for Gun Rights In 2015, a man named Chris Harper-Mercer shot and killed eight of his fellow classmates, and injured nine others. All throughout his life Mercer had mental and emotional issues, yet in the aftermath of the massacre, people put more blame on the gun than on Mercer himself (Healy and Lovett). In the past few years gun laws have become more strict because people believe they are a danger to society. That, however, is not always true.
Guns on Campus Imagine participating with classmates while a professor is lecturing, then hearing a gun discharge, following cries for help from a window, at that moment all hiding; eyes closed hoping no one else is next, wishing for any means of self-protection. Possibly a scene from any of the campuses where mass shootings have occurred. During the Virginia Tech massacre, 32 students were tragically slain and at Florida State University three students were injured within the school’s library by a gunman until the campus police were able to shot and kill the gunman. Most disasters could be avoided if the campus had adequate security, honored the Second Amendment and if the students were prepared for these types of incidents. Most colleges have over a thousand attendees per year,
Guns on college campuses has been a rising topic since the 2007 Virginia Tech Massacre. Before the Virginia Tech Massacre there were not many laws about guns on campuses or about the precautions that should be taken when selling handguns. Since then there have been many laws and gun buying restrictions implemented in order to keep crime down. However, there is still debate on what else can be done in order to protect students and faculty. One debate is whether or not guns should be allowed as protection for students and faculty.
Gun Rights in America The Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights grants Americans the right to bear arms. Opinions of this vary, but I believe the safety of ourselves and posterity are above all. Criminals throughout the US take advantage of this privilege and use weapons for violence and evil purposes that should be unspeakable to our world, such as murder, robbery, and torture. Owning rifles or pistols ourselves is the only way to counter these treacheries.
Since the brutal murders at Columbine High School in April 1999, the long, contentious debate over gun control has reached fever pitch and become a forum for the president and congressional allies to demonstrate "leadership." A plethora of new proposals regularly emanates from the White House to reflexive squawks of disapproval from gun owners and manufacturers and their allied organization. Essentially, however, the debate boils down to a choice between new regulations over sale, purchase, and possession of firearms or increased enforcement of criminal laws against those who use firearms illegally. That is, do we focus on legal possession of firearms or their illegal possession and use ¾ on controlling gun owners or controlling
The Truth “It’s everywhere. Guns and violence are in every nook and cranny of America. Many children can get a gun quicker than they can get a book out of a library. That puts us all at risk”(Marian Wright Edelman). One should not argue to repeal the second amendment.
The issue of gun control is the violence caused by the lack of restrictions. Throughout the country, there are mass shootings performed by people who have mental imbalances. These people are not sound in judgement. Guns do not always create a negative affect. Firearms are a staple of law enforcement.
