Imagine receiving a medical bill addressed to you that had the prescription for your 16 year old daughter’s birth control pills. The problem is you did not consent to her getting on birth control. As a parent what would your reaction be, pain, anger, sadness? Would you be angry at your daughter for getting the pills without permission or would you be angry at the doctor for providing the birth control? According to Guttmacher Institute, 21 states in the United States allow minors to consent to contraceptive services (Minors Access…). Although many people may consider birth control to be a positive thing, there are some negatives to getting birth control that many 16 years olds do not think about, such as an increased chance of promiscuity, and the side effects that may be associated with birth control.

Even though birth control (except for condoms) is used for protection from an unwanted pregnancy, it does not protect partners against sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, etc. which can lead to many other problems if not properly treated such as infertility (Infertility).
One of the major risks to using birth control is the side effects that they may cause. Birth control comes in many forms; typically as a pill but there are other alternatives such as: a monthly shot, a ring, IUDs and many more. In America, there are people who question whether or not birth control should be sold over the counter. Although this is a controversy in the United States, it is common practice in other countries around the world.

Each year, over one million women in America chose to have an abortion (WebMD). What would happen if that right to choose was taken away?

Many parents do not like the idea of this but, “46% of teens are sexually active and by the time they are seniors 62% are sexually active.” (kurt) This fact is alarming and birth control for teens is a very controversial topic. Should Teens be able to get birth control without consent of parents? We will discuss the positive and negative effects of birth control for teens using the need for birth control, effects of birth control, and the teen mom dropouts to show how necessary birth control is.
Most of society today believes that birth control is only used for the “stopping of the egg” in the ovary. There is much more then just stopping the pregnancy. A vaccination is being introduced to the body which will then produce an immunity to a specific disease.
Plan B One-Step, also known as the morning-after pill, is currently available for all females of any age without pharmacist approval. However, this has not always been the case. It used to be that females could not obtain the contraceptive if they were under the age of 17 and it was only available over-the-counter with valid identification. Many people still believe in those restriction, including the current president of the United States. On December 8, 2011 Barak Obama presented interesting points in an interview on Plan B about the safety for girls regarding the pill.
Birth control can also be used to regulate periods, period cramps, and can even cure acne. Birth control isn’t as evil as parents make it out to be. About 77% of teenage pregnancies are unplanned (“The Office of Adolescent Health…) , but with the help of birth control, these numbers can be significantly reduced. If girls are old enough to make the decision to be sexually active they are old enough to get on the pill without their parent’s consent. If these girls are old enough to decide to partake in sexual activity, they are old enough to choose to do it safely.
Teenage pregnancy is the condition of being pregnant of adolescence aged 10 to 19. Those who are affected are the girl herself up to the national society. The victims of teenage pregnancy are the girl herself, her child, her parents and relatives and the national society as a whole. It will also probably make her economically vulnerable.
The positive world views include: overpopulation and economic downturn. We will start by examining the negative world views on birth control. The World Health Organization (WHO) released reports that using birth control namely the pill and types of estrogen replacement therapy increases a women's risk of developing breast cancer (Nadal, 2012). These reports were based on the combinations of agents that are used in order to make oral contraceptives effect (Nadal, 2012).
