Are they students or employees? They spend more time with the sport than in school. Student athletes should be acknowledged for their performances. College athletes should be paid to play because they bring money into the school, advertisement, and they perform the same tasks of pros. College kids bring in thousands of dollars every game day.

Taking a look at the average college student, should they be paid for what they are studying? Probably not. Then why should college athletes be paid? They shouldn 't get paid just because of their athletic ability. They shouldn 't be paid because they are students, not professionals.

Some would argue that college football players should not be paid for various reasons. One of these reasons is because they think the players are at college to get an education, sports are a secondary or extracurricular activity. The players are generating money for the school, which pays for school and other things around campus. Many people might say that it is unfair to the other sports that are less popular. Football is a very difficult sport to play, these players practice and practice, they need to be rewarded for all this work.

After researching this topic, my opinion is that college athletes should be paid. The NCAA makes millions of dollars every year, while some athletes can’t put food on the table. Athletes need to be paid for their services like they are working a job, and should be paid by the hour. If the NCAA paid every one of its athletes 200 dollars a week, it would still be a fraction of its revenue. Getting paid in college would help teach these players some responsibility before they are rewarded a big NFL/NBA contract. Players could make just enough money to be forced to make choices that can pave the way for more responsible decision making when the financial stakes become high. I personlly think NCAA athletes should get paid, because they put a lot on the line to play college ball. Yea they might get paid in free education but you got to look on the other side how are they to support they self for personal needs like tooth paste, cloths, shoes, soap, and many more. What about the ones that go out of there home state and play. Their family many miles away so they can’t get to much support from them.

There are a myriad of reasons that people can argue the opposite way, but, the reasons they should get paid definitely outweigh the reasons they shouldn’t get paid.

Student athletes should not get paid because the full-ride scholarships that usually pay for you to go to the university pays for your entire education at the university. Jason Whitlock wrote about college athletes not being paid on Gale Opposing Viewpoints. “We need to stress to them that the educational opportunity they have been afforded is more valuable than the ‘pocket money’ an Ed Martin can provide.” Also, if the player is good enough they could be drafted or go professionally to a pro team in whatever sport that they are decent in. Then again, if we pay these collegiate athletes while receiving scholarship money, “the NCAA admits that a ‘full scholarship’ does not cover the basic necessities for a student-athlete.

Student athletes should be paid because if you can fill a stadium with fans you can fill a University with paying students and star professors. These college athletes are bringing money to the university. Fans pay all around the world to come and watch them play. If these players weren’t here to play for the university, they would lose money because no players means no fans.
