Should Texas have a foreign Policy? Texas should have good friendships with other countries, so it could be backed up by anytime. It is a tremendous help for the state just in case they are getting a shortage on something. It wouldn’t help the state to be independent because in the future the economy could go down and it might need something from someone and Texas might not have any help. Mexico is the foreign country of Texas and they should always have a good relationship with trades. Texas is a state where we grow crops, but we can’t grow everything in our state. That is where our foreign country Mexico helps us be supplied in our goods. We make even trades which helps both. The Mexican make more money when they distribute their food that’s grown over there and distributed over here as if they were to sell it in their own country. Although, when they do that in their country it is a little bit more expensive due to them wanting to get their profit. Texas should always maintain a good relationship with their foreign country. If all of the fifty states would have been independent relations with their foreign countries it would create a chaos not only with our federal government, but with those countries it would create a confusion. …show more content…
People get ill all the time and Texas may not always have enough medicines or the cure for the diseases. That is when their foreign country Mexico sees how you might need a hand and they can help you out and make sure that nothing bad happens in your economy. Although our borders along Texas are always being used to transport something into the state and taxes are being paid by the Mexicans but it is a fair deal for both because we are allowing them to come into our state to sell their products or distribute their goods or maybe not even that their traditions being
In the south, people believed that each state should pick if they can legally own slaves, or no. According to Document B “ That in this free government that the servitude of the African race… is mutually beneficial to both bond (slave) and free justified by the experience of mankind.” In Texas they were pro-slavery, and didn't exactly care if the north did have slaves or not. Texas was agricultural back when the civil war broke
Secondly, Texans fought in the Civil War to protect their states’ rights. Abraham Lincoln said in his first inaugural address “No state upon its own mere motion, can lawfully get out of the union”, but an article in the Texas State Gazette from 1860 says “No state can force another state either to remain or withdraw from it”. Finally O.M. Roberts, president of the Texas Secession said “The crisis upon us involves not only the right of self government, but the maintenance of a great principle in the law of nations”.(Document C) This is proof that Texans wanted to protect their states’
The first cause is Mexican resentment over the annexation of Texas. Mexico had never recognized Texas's independence and therefore refused to accept the American action of making it a state. B. The second cause is the longing of many expansionists in the United States for California and New Mexico. Some envied the rich, fertile lands of California and its superb harbors, while others affectionately recalled the profitable trade along the Santa Fe Trail.
If I were part of Texas, I would support states rights and the thought of secession because of
The results of the Mexican war brought Texas into serious conflict with the national government. Texas had been attempting to expand its boundaries by claiming land in Santa Fe County. This now meant Texas had inclusions to the boundaries including most of New Mexico east
Another reason is, Mexico City is too far away to govern Texas. The U.S can do a better job governing Texas and we will protect our people living there. A befit from Texas going the Union would be the excellent enonomic potential that is has. Texas' land is rich in minerials,
According to a letter by J. Miguel Falcon created in 1833, it stated, “He enclosed his Lordship and got a copy of a letter that Don Estevan F. Austin sent on October 2nd last from Mexico City to the town council. " This quote shows that for months Austin had been working with the officials in Mexico City to try to make them think that Texas should be its own state.
There are some roles that the state have some restrictions being as a major. The state bureaucracy is largely controlled by multimember boards and commissions with the results that the state is fragmented. They have been saying that Texas needs it governor to have meaningful budget authority so the budgeting system encourages some control over the government. If Texas has a more powerful governor it could have the legislature’s power could have some decreasing in the state, but by doing this the democracy is better served when the legislature is the more
According to Professor Elazar, the political culture of Texas is based on traditionalism and individualistic elements. I agree and accept this because there are statements and proof to back up this fact. Texas has a strong sense of individualism, traditional values, conservative leanings, and its position as an economic powerhouse. The voter turnout in Texas is lower than most other American states, with the argument that Texans view political participation as a financial perk versus the value of contributing to society. Texas has a strong tradition of individualism.
Also, Texas struggled economically after declaring independence from Mexico. Annexation to the United States was seen as an economic advantage to many Texans. They would be able to trade freely with other states within the Union, without paying tariffs if they joined the US. Therefore, boosting the economy of Texas and create jobs. Thus, many
The political scene in Texas for the past twenty years has been consistently geared to one side (the right) and I do not see it changing anytime soon. This last presidential election was the most controversial and divided this country has seen in decades and if a change was going to happen, it would have happened this cycle. As the Texas counties started submitting their total vote counts for the presidency, the only counties that went blue were the counties with the major Texas cities in them, i.e. Austin and Dallas. The rest of the state stayed red. This trend hasn’t been uncommon.
Lots of people lived in and enjoyed Texas back in the 1800’s. Texans felt extremely loyal to Texas since it freed a lot of people after the Mexican War. However, it felt like the North was trying to take away some of their rights and privileges and Texans did not like that at all. Texas had previously fought for their independence and they did not want
The United States believed that Texas would quickly become a part of the United States, this wasn’t the case and instead it took years of debate and obstacles for it to become a state in the US. In 1836, the Republic of Texas wanted to be annexed by the US but when the Texas minister suggested annexation to the administration of Martin Van Buren in August 1837 the request was rejected since the administration didn’t want to start a war with Mexico. After that, Texas extracted the annexation request. Another thing keeping the annexation from happening was that during the Annexation discussions in the United States people from the north feared that the slave states would gain representation if Texas was admitted as a slave state. And then, despite
Lamar did not only act opposite from Houston's actions in the native category, but he also did not agree with keeping the peace with Mexico. Lamar wanted to aggravate tension between Texas and Mexico, and he did this by sending the Texas navy to Mexico in order to help soldiers and citizens of Mexico who were rebelling against the Mexican government. Lamar did not care about becoming a part of the United States to free the republic from debt, he wanted Texas to remain independent, and wanted to expand Texas borders into New Mexico to become a bigger republic with more land. Being in debt did not bother Lamar, and he continued to spend money on expeditions, and battles with natives. This increased the Texas debt that had already been calculated at one million dollars, and Lamar increased the debt to seven million dollars by the end of his presidency.
Laws and rules that date back to times when it made it difficult for people to stand out and have a voice. Texas based their laws on family values, school prayer, against abortion, and against gay marriage. Another negative aspect of Texas its location next to Mexico. Since Texas is bordering Mexico, there has been a lot of illegal Mexican immigrants crossing the border unto Texas seeking jobs that belong to legal Texas citizens. Though has been stricter laws put in place to prevent illegal immigrants from crossing over into Texas, there is still dispute over the issue
