Since the brutal murders at Columbine High School in April 1999, the long, contentious debate over gun control has reached fever pitch and become a forum for the president and congressional allies to demonstrate "leadership." A plethora of new proposals regularly emanates from the White House to reflexive squawks of disapproval from gun owners and manufacturers and their allied organization. Essentially, however, the debate boils down to a choice between new regulations over sale, purchase, and possession of firearms or increased enforcement of criminal laws against those who use firearms illegally. That is, do we focus on legal possession of firearms or their illegal possession and use ¾ on controlling gun owners or controlling

The topic of gun control and firearm regulation has been subject to heated debate for a long while. Both sides have potent arguments, however the core of this issue ultimately boils down to the constitution itself. More specifically the second amendment. This argument quickly becomes quite complicated because gun control and firearm regulation concerns not only the right of citizens, but more importantly the safety of citizens. The second amendment helps to guarantee an imperative right belonging to all citizens.
Gun Laws There have been many cases of murder, robbery, and rape that could have been stopped if more places allowed carrying of guns. If carriers could take a gun to more places themselves there would be less crimes in those areas due to trained carriers being able to protect others. If the laws were to be greatly increased, fewer areas would allow carriers; giving criminals, who do not abide by gun laws and would acquire them illegally, more opportunities to commit crimes knowing the people are defenseless. With more, strict laws in place most people would be unable to get a gun to defend their homes and families, while criminals are still able to get guns through illegal activities.
The assault rifle ban has critics that believe by banning the weapons, it would make the country a unsafe place. Opponents claim that the Second Amendment reserves the right to own any type of weapon for self-defense. Noel Marino, the Editor and Author of Guns and Crimes, stated "Gun control supporters had argued that the Founding Fathers could not have in envisioned semi-automatic firearms, and thus the Second Amendment only protected firearms such as muskets. However, the court dismissed that notion saying " some have made the argument, bordering on the frivolous, protected by the Second Amendment. We do not interpret constitutional rights that way.

Gun Control Lately people have been using guns in a negative way and causing a bad effect on the world. People have been using guns inapropriatly and have been performing mass killings. If guns are being used by people then the people using them should know how to use them correctly, or not being a crazy lunatic. When I was 12 I was playing with a pistol and accidentally shot it, I wasn’t hurt and no one else was hurt but somebody could have been injured badly. While those in favor of gun control work hard to push their agenda, it is clear that America has far more citizens who favor gun rights over gun control. In order to get what they want, control supporters are going to need to get a big jump on gun supporters for house seats. Some of the control supporters have even begun to turn their head and give up on their arguments. The ones who were once completely against guns, have now begun to say that “there is a time and place for everything” (Elliot and Frizell, The New Politics of Gun Control). The motto in New Hampshire is “Live Free or Die”.
