If you had the chance to save a life with a plant would you? Medical marijuana doesn 't sound all that bad does it seeing that cancer cells are slowed dramatically. You can never overdose on the drug because it is all natural growing, not to mention the income and jobs that the farms and distribution of the prescription would bring into the state. In hindsight, it is worth it to have this plant that naturally occurs legalized to save lives because i don 't wanna be called a murderer, do you? Support for legalizing marijuana was 31% in 2000, 50% in 2016 before reaching 60% last year. This shows that despite government efforts to eliminate its use, marijuana is becoming more popular. The Costs of Criminalization Over the last 18 years, 23 state governments have legalized marijuana, taxonomically known as cannabis sativa, for medicinal use. Voters in these states have declared that the federal government has scheduled marijuana inaccurately, in that cannabis has many medical uses. Medical professionals in these states prescribe marijuana as a treatment for ailments ranging from insomnia and muscle pain, to post traumatic stress and epilepsy. But recently, we have seen a shift in marijuana reformation movements throughout the country.
Back in the early twentieth century, marijuana was mainly used for medical purposes in the US. Now, both it 's recreational and medical use is increasingly being consumed by the population and the tendency is to continue increasing. Much has been said about the use of marijuana as a solution to different health problems, and although not everything that is said is true, it cannot be ignored that marijuana can help in the treatment of some cases of adult patients. CNN’s chief medical correspondent, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, was opposed to the medicinal use of cannabis. Based on his knowledge as a neurologist, he was convinced that the drug was dangerous and had dismissed its supposed therapeutic benefits.
Furthermore, a recent American study found that treating epilepsy and other seizure disorders with CBD reduced seizures by 54%. Use of THC reduced spasticity in sufferers of multiple sclerosis by 30%. Cannabis may also reduce depression and relieve anxiety. In the article “Not Just a High,” by Nathan Seppa, the author believes that medicinal marijuana is on the verge of a big breakthrough in the realm of medicine. Although the author clearly states all of the benefits there would be to using medicinal marijuana as a medicine, he also points out that there are still a lot of risks and uncertainties to deal with too. Medicinal marijuana is still in the somewhat early stages of testing, but it has already proved to alleviate pain, fight forms of inflammation, treat cancer, and even suppress tumors. Seppa gives several examples on how the views of medicinal marijuana have changed.
As a nation we have come to point where we must take a unified stand on the issue of marijuana. Since 1937 the drug has been deemed illegal by the U.S. government but over the best decade, people have been pushing for the decriminalization of the cannabis plant. As a non drug user, i have researched the internet in search of unbiased information regarding the drugs health, economic, and crime influences on society. The fruits of my labor have brought me to the undisputable conclusion that our continued restriction on possession and use of the drug not only violates the liberties of U.S. citizens, but it also is costing Americans Billions of dollars, and something, our lives.
People believe that if marijuana is legalized users will get addicted. Marijuana use disorder become what is known as addiction when “the person cannot stop using the drug even though it interferes with many aspects of his or her life” (“Is Marijuana Addictive”). Although addiction is a problem, out of all the people who use marijuana, only 9% become dependent on it (“Is Marijuana Addictive”). Also, opioids and painkillers are very addictive as well, and they can lead to an overdose resulting in death. The second concern is abuse.
Although opponents say that legalizing medical marijuana is a “back-door method of legalizing the drug for recreational use,” the U.S. should legalize medical marijuana because it will reduce crime, increase revenue, provide more research, and will help treat numerous medical conditions. There have been several studies on the relationship between the legalization of marijuana and crime rates. It has been proven that it does, in fact, reduce the crime rate. The city’s taxes on medical marijuana cause revenue to increase. Research has found that marijuana contains “anti-cancer properties that could help create new cancer treatments.”
Legalize Marijuana There is a great misconception of Marijuana today, which is that it is a dangerous drug that kills people by destroying brain cells and causing people to overdose. Both of those horrific accusations are not only stretched to great lengths, but are completely wrong. In fact, according to The National Cancer society, many of the studies done to tarnish the image of cannabis were flawed in numerous ways; either they did not obtain a large enough group of people, were mentally impaired, and/or had outside incidents which created the problems, etc. Many feel that marijuana, medical and recreational alike, should be legalized, for it aids in medical illnesses, help those suffering from chronic depression, anxiety, and stress,

Recently the use of medical marijuana has become a very controversial topic among the community and government. Marijuana has a stereotype with hippies and drug offences, often leading to its medical benefits being overlooked consequently marijuana is only rarely given to patients with extreme conditions. It is not being used efficiently as well as not being used to its potential. Several states in Australia still consider the use of medical marijuana a prohibited act and the few states and territories that don’t prohibit the drug only allow the use for medical conditions.
