1634 people were killed in 2015 in 25 countries worldwide. And this due to the death penalty alone. And now Erdogan and the Turkish government are seriously thinking about reinstating the death penalty. He believes that this is necessary, to establish peace and order in Turkey, to prevent further politically motivated crimes, such as the Turkey Putsch and other Terror attacks. But the truth is, the death penalty brings more sorrow and pain than it will ever bring peace and protection. And here’s why:

The death penalty does not change the fact, that harm has been done and someone was hurt or murdered. It doesn’t bring a victim back to life and it doesn’t undo the pain that was caused. Even families that have lost someone are against the death penalty because it doesn’t make the pain of loss or hurt ever go away.

Many People believe the government when they say, that the death penalty is going to decrease the number of murders and crimes or acts of terror that happen in a country. But there is no proof of any sort that supports this statement. Too many people have been killed to decrease crime rates when there are statistics showing the opposite. Italy, for example, abolished the death penalty in 1994. The crime rate in 1993 was 2.3 per 100’000 people. And in 2010 it sank all the way to 0.8. So, the …show more content…

This is one of many fundamental human rights, that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations, states. One of the objectives of the UN is to promote human rights, and as a founding member, who voted in favor of the declaration, Turkey should adhere to this. But by reinstating the death penalty Turkey would contradict this idea. It would be a direct violation of the most fundamental human rights. Furthermore, these rights are supposed to hinder and limit what a state can do to a person. By reinstating the death penalty, the value and the respect towards human life would be completely
