John, a teenager, comes home from school and immediately picks up the remote to turn on the television. An advertisement pops up from the screen featuring the latest video game, Clash of the Titans. The game features a multiplayer online battle arena that pits teams of players against each other and with each team helping each other and working out strategies to emerge victorious. However, as he nags his parents to buy him the game, his mother is actually worried for she views video games as counterproductive. But the game industry is huge and it covers a large variety of experiences. Video games exercise the brain which is a useful function. In one study, Professor Simone Kuhn from the Max-Planck Institute of Human Development, in Berlin, used f MRI (functional MRI) technology to study the effects of video games on the brain. Most video games developed are considered as strategy games which the players are given full freedom on their actions and in return affect the outcome of the game. This result to complex problem solving and can teach higher-order skills like interpretative analysis, plan formulation and execution, strategic thinking, adaptation to rapid change, and problem solving(CHORVA SOURCE). DOTA or Defense of the Ancients is one of the video games specializing on forward thinking, strategic thinking, and problem solving which is why it is one of the most famous and respected video games developed. Other than Strategy games, Co-operative mode games also improve a person’s strategic thinking ability and enhance the ability to work in a team. These types of video games mostly use a combination of a headphone, microphone, and keyboard to help the players discuss and plan a strategy effectively to achieve a common goal. This allows players to band together, pool their talents together, and work as a team to defeat the opponent or complete certain quests. Video games also feature different types of difficulty, starting from easy to hard.
