Arguments Against Mandatory Service

The number of volunteers in America increases immencly every year, it is becoming a trend that greatly benefits our country. Mandatory service is not only unconstitutional but unecessary. With all the various programs out there that make volunteering fun and easily accessable, mandatory service is not something that needs to be enforced. Forced service should not be used in America because it's unconstitutional, volunteering should come from the heart, and the government shouldnot have to pay people for something that millions of people already do for free. As the article, "The Heart of Service" states in 2009, 63.4 million americans volunteered by choice. 7 years later that numeber is sure tohave greatly increased, paying citizens to voluneer doent make good sence. Paying citizens just enough to live would take away from our free market economy; people wouldnt have enough money to live and buy what they want and many small buissnesses could go bankrupt. Another issue is, getting paid just enough money to live would force the rich population that donates millions of dollars a year to charity to not be able to donate that money for a year, hurting the chairties more than the service will help. Being forced to volunteer would lower the quality of work being done as well. The majority of people wont want to be there and will get by doing the bare minimum, the volunteers that do it by choice work with love in their hearts for the people they are helping. Being forced to help others would bring all the joy out of it for those who truly care. It would turn a fun, fulfilling expirience into a dull, drag of a day. Also, it is simply unconstitutional to force labor on to the citizens of this fine
