Throughout history America has had a lot of different adversities. America has a long line of history that has not always been absolutely perfect; but yet tries to perfect itself. The early foundations of America started off by pertaining to The British Empire. Being part of the Empire they had perks, but they also had disadvantages. Some Americans wanted more rights as citizens while others felt America would be better off standing as its own country. As a result of this disagreement they decided to battle for independence against Great Britain. As Americans we ask the question why? Why did they rebel against Britain and what was the specific purpose that drove them to conquer their wish and stand on its own.

America started off by trying to make the Articles of Confederation. The articles of Confederations were drafted in 1777 and then ratified in 1781. The Articles of Confederations were described as an early attempted draft of the constitution; but it fail because it could hold the nation together as a whole since the laws were directed towards the States. The states had more power than the central government. States got a hold of new profound freedom for example, Article two stated “Each state retains its sovereignty, freedom, and independence, and every Power, Jurisdiction and rights, which is not by this confederation expressly delegated to the United States, in Congress assembled.” (Tusan, 109). The articles quickly failed but it wasn’t replaced by the constitution until 1787, after constant changes to “perfect” it. The Constitution brought the nation together with the Preamble which states “we the people” in order to make our country come together as a whole. Trying to form a stable union was rocky for America, but with the constitution it brought that sense of stability. The constitution mapped out three branches of government. Each branch has different power: which balances each other out so one does not overpower one …show more content…
Especially in the west because it was mainly taken up by the Spanish and French empires and Mexico. They knew in order to get that land they would have to fight for it. Getting Land from the French was easy because America just bought it in the Louisiana Purchase. The Civil War was between 1861- 1865. American imperialism is the reason for its expansion. Manifest destiny was the moral justification to do so. States always want more land. Land was thought to equal power, and we had the military power to beat Mexico, and gain a stronger position in the western hemisphere. It was so important for Nevada to become a state that they telegraphed the entire constitution, in order to get it approved by the election. The importance of Nevada becoming a state was to give Lincoln a better chance and advantage at the election. The formation of the state of Nevada gave the abolitionists/non-slave faction in the U.S government another state which guaranteed 2 senators and at least one congressmen for the abolition/republican faction. A non-slave state. The formation of the state of Nevada gave the abolitionists/non-slave faction in the U.S government another state which guaranteed 2 senators and at least one congressmen for the abolition/republican faction. A non-slave state. Nevada statehood showed the growing establishment of states in the west. The more that territory went from
1a. Under the Articles of Confederation, Congress didn’t have the power to tax the colonies so their only option was to request the states for money, which often ended in rejection. Because Congress had so little money to regulate the army/navy and resolve crises, they sold off western lands and printed worthless print money in desperate attempts to do without money. The constitution solves this dilemma by giving Congress the power to make revenue through taxing and borrowing and also the power to appropriate funds.
In the origins of the civil war the United Sates was going through social, economic, and territorial changes. The US population was growing exponentially due to its increase of immigration which forced them to move westwards. The northwest territory was the first land created outside of the original states it was also north and west of the Ohio river. In the year 1787 Congress passed a law called the Northwest Land Ordinance which provided a method for the United States to admit new territories and equal representation to the north and the south based on population where every state will send representatives to congress which made the north and south add more states to each of their sides so they could have more representatives on congress
Liberty Sumners 712 The Articles of Confederation were a great change to our Government. With time spent using this system, we realized the weaknesses associated with it. This lead to the Constitutional Convention being convened on 1787 in Philadelphia. We needed to find out what was weakening our Government.
After making the Declaration of Independence, the United States had to make a new form of government. The Articles of Confederation were the first constitution. States were afraid of the government being tyrants, so they decided to make their own rules. Without a proper government, there was total mayhem between the states, and the Articles of Confederation failed. At the constitutional convention in Philadelphia, the delegates meant to
When the thirteen colonies declared their independence from Britain, they no longer had a government or authority to rule. So, the Articles of Confederation was created and became the first constitution to govern the United States. This plan was created in order to organize the nation and fight the Revolutionary War for independence. The Articles of Confederation had many weaknesses such as the government only had one branch that only created laws and did not have branches to execute, interpret, or enforce the laws. As a result, the Confederation failed the nation and it was abolished then a new constitution was created entitled the U.S Constitution.
In 1777, after the American Revolution had ended, the new United States of America adopted the Articles of Confederation as the new central government. The Articles made the government weak, powerless, and vulnerable out of fear for tyranny. This system had many flaws and created a lack of unity between the states. As a result, the Constitution of the United States was developed in 1789 to solve many of the problems that arose from the Articles. This new system re-constructed the government into three branches and created a system of checks and balances to prevent the government from becoming corrupt.
The Articles of Confederation was the first attempt at a sort of constitution for the United States of America. This imperfect document was adopted by the Continental Congress on November 15th, 1777, but not entirely ratified until March 1st, 1781 when Maryland eventually agreed to the legislation, making it official. It was severely under powered and lacked simple concepts that are now common sense. The federal government had little, if any, power and there was no executive branch to check the others, these problems made the federal government practically nonexistent. Flawed as it was, the Articles of Confederation did have its accomplishments, it was used by Congress to handle business, it lead the colonies in the Revolutionary War, and
The Articles of Confederation and the Constitution are two important documents in American history that established the foundation for the current system of government in the United States. While both documents aimed to establish a functioning government, they differ greatly in their approach to governance and the protection of individual liberties. The Articles of Confederation, adopted in 1777, were the first constitution of the United States and provided a framework for a loose confederation of states. Under the Articles, the central government was relatively weak and had limited powers, with the states retaining most of the power. The government had no power to regulate commerce, levy taxes, or enforce laws.
After declaring independence from Great Britain, the United States needed an established document to help unify the colonies. The Articles of Confederation was the first documented “Constitution” the Unites States ever had. The Articles of confederation was created to push for the individual states to come together and act as a one. Almost being like a rough draft, this document was a loose outline for the federal government that was meant to help defend the country from foreign attacks and promote economic growth. The weak document led to the eventual ratification that allowed the nation to adopt the new and improved Constitution.
The Articles of Confederation were a document seen as the “first” constitution of the United States. This document granted the new national government power to control the military, declare war, and create treaties between the states. However, the Articles had holes in it considering the government did not have the power to tax, create laws without at least nine states’ approval, or change the Articles of Confederation without a unanimous vote. This means that the country soon fell into debt and petty arguments between state, the new government had no control. It was time for a change.
America at the time was like a teenager and England like a parental figure. America had distance between England had some independence that they gained when the Mayflower went off its course in landed in Plymouth Massachusetts, instead of Jamestown Virginia. The pilgrims drafted up a set of policies they would follow seeing that they thought they we not under direct control of the King of England seeing that they were not in his colony. This led to colonies becoming slightly independent, having the freedom to practice a religion that they chose without punishment. Continuing with the teenager mentality, America wanted a bit more and thought they had good control over what is going on.
The US wanted to expand its territory for the growth of slavery, which was a dehumanizing and morally wrong practice. Although many Americans wanted slavery to expand, many did not.
America before Imperialism wanted to be isolated from the rest of the world. Americans had fought a War of Independence where they got their freedom from Britain and they did not want another war and deaths. Also America fought a civil with a huge losses and did not want to get involved other wars. U.S. expansion was primarily westward.
After proclaiming independence from Great Britain, the United States needed an established document to help unify the thirteen colonies. The Articles of confederation being the first “constitution” was created to get individual states to come together as one. SerDaniella Herrera Page 1 3/8/18ving as a rough draft, this document was a loose outline for the federal government, which was meant to promote economic growth and help the people. The weak document led to the eventual ratification, which allowed the nation to adopt the new and improved constitution. The Articles of Confederation brought issues with trade, State Representation, and taxation that provoked the eventual ratification, allowing for the Constitution to take its place.
In beginning America, the states always struggled with one another on the forming of a single national level government. That was the purpose of the Constitution; to classify what powers state and national government would have. On March 1, 1781 the Articles of Confederation were adopted. The articles outlined America’s first national government. The Articles granted the confederation congress authority over foreign policies.
