I. Introduction
A. Artificial insemination is the deliberate introduction of sperm into a female’s uterus or cervix for the purpose of achieving a pregnancy through in vivo fertilization by means other than sexual intercourse.
B. Artificial insemination is another name for intrauterine insemination but can also refer to placing sperm in a woman’s vagina or cervix when she is ovulating. The sperm then travels into the fallopian tubes, where they can fertilize the woman’s egg or eggs.
C. Artificial insemination is for couples that want to have a baby but cannot produce having children.
II.
A. Artificial insemination involves male infertility, it’s often used when there’s a very low sperm count or when sperm aren’t strong enough to swim through the cervix and up through the fallopian tubes.

A. Married woman can choose to be inseminated with their husband’s sperm (provided the sperm is viable) or with the sperm of a donor from a sperm bank, a process called artificial insemination by donor (AID).
