As fads and trends come and go, there is one certain topic that always stays relevant--food. Whether it be new recipes or tips or restaurants, cooking and cuisine are two of the most popular subjects in America. Many people fret over “revolutionary” diets or organic recipes, yet others fail to actually track down the origins of their foods. Because of this, I did not hesitate when choosing a book. My curiosity pertaining to food got the better of me
Informational Report Trade schools have received a bad reputation due to invalid stigmas surrounding the subject. Back when trade schools were new to the post-secondary education system, the school’s effectiveness was debated. Scholars believed trade schools didn’t properly prepare students with the life and professional experience they needed to be successful. How could one learn to think critically and creatively in a trade school like they would in college? This was the previous mindset held against vocational schools, and what began as negative opinions, lead to lingering stigmas surrounding the world of trade school (1867, 87 Notre Dame L. Rev.).
With technology, students can learn at home instead of in government schools, and they are able to learn at their unique pace, and process more information because it is readily available to
In his essay, "College isn't for Everyone. Let's Stop Pretending It Is," Michael Petrilli uses the title of his article to clearly state the opinion that college is simply not for everyone. He supports this opinion on the statistically low college graduation rate of lower income students. He links this low rate of graduation to poor performance in high school, which leaves students unready for college upon completion of twelfth grade. On the job technical training is presented as a viable alternative to college, where a skill can be obtained to provide a career.
From Murray’s claim, I do agree that there has become a rising demand for skilled workers. On the other hand, I feel that training and vocational schools do not give as much flexibility in learning other majors as it narrowly focuses on the degree with no general education
“Vocational faculties, either by choice or because they have been rebuffed by their liberal arts colleagues, do not collaborate enough with Arts and Sciences faculties to prepare their students well for purposes other than performing the tasks demanded by their jobs. The pressure to respond appropriately to vocational needs will not diminish in the foreseeable future”(48). Each area of study both has its drawbacks, but together they can fill the spaces both degrees leave behind and create an amazing environment for undergraduates to train for careers and acquire moral and familial practices. The needs of both vocational and liberal arts often overlap so it would increasingly easy to combine the two programs. Without the help of liberal arts, vocational programs will fall short of pleasing employers and helping their students lead fulfilling lives.
Many kids might enjoy cooking, finance, baking, etc., but never get to try these because there are no classes that offer these fields. Home economics can give children a way to learn these abilities. A quote from Career Choices In Home Economics states, “Home economics is a field of study that includes budgeting, food preservation, nutrition, child development and fashion merchandising.” This quote shows that home economics can include many skills such as the ones listed above, that can lead to career opportunities. Another quote from Home Economics and its Importance to Students’ Futures states, “In addition to the development of valuable intrapersonal skills, the home economics curriculum also introduces the students to a wide variety of potential career paths.
"Technology is like art. It is a soaring exercise of the human imagination". Like everything in this world that has its good and bad effects on us, technology does too. How we use technology is important in determining what results it would bring us. Nowadays, technology is heavily used for educational purposes.
We depend too much on technology. There is no doubt about it. Many places of work are at a loss if their internet connection stops working. Many businesses and institutions are left high and dry if the internet or computer crashes. Every bit of information regarding business is entered into the computer.
The education system produces skills that are not valued by employers, while raising the expectations of those who acquire them. Consequently, the unemployed do not take up existing job vacancies, and employers are unwilling to hire available candidates (Njonjo, 2010). The mismatch is more marked for school leavers and graduates who have just finished school, partly providing an explanation for the high unemployment rate among youth and new entrants into the job market. The suggested remedy is to reform the education system and increase focus on technical education and vocational training, matching them to the needs of the job market (Coenjaerts et al. 2009).
