Cronbach defines this as: “A test is a systematic procedure for comparing the behavior of two or more persons” (1990 p. 21). Cronbach’s definition suggests that the procedure for comparing behavior is systematic, however the system that is generally used to measure behavior is standardized. For example, the MMPI and MYERS-BRIGG are standardized. As the terminology states, standardized tests usually present a standardized set of questions under standardized conditions, with responses from the individuals being collected in a standardized format, scored and interpreted based on standardized norms. The objective is that all individuals essentially take the same test under the same conditions.
