The video of the UNHCR Philippines is one of the ways for us to respond to the Assumpta Technical High School 's school thrust which is, "Assumpta: Living the Culture of Mindfulness, A Good News to the Wider Community". Also, the ATHS has four core values, the love, faith, stewardship, and the truth. The school taught their students to be more mindful on what they are doing and on what they will do. The Assumpta family lives the culture of mindfulness and the live the core values. The school is aware on what happened in Marawi City and the Assumpta family made a way to help them through prayers. As a student in Assumpta Technical High School, we must live the school thrust as we help other people and by helping them, we must remember the four core values that the school taught to us. These core values will help us to fully understand why we need to help and why are helping other people. The first core value is love, the ATHS defined love as a way that will lead you to self-giving and sacrifice. Helping the people in Marawi is also sign of sacrificing because you will sacrifice something to give to them. We must not doubt to help them because love has empathy, we must care for them because they are our …show more content…
The head is the academic excellence, the heart is for faith and spirituality, and the hand is for the social responsibility. One of the three pillars is the hand, which is the social responsibility. We have our own responsibility and one of those is to help. The video of the UNHCR Philippines about the Marawi incident, we must help them through little acts. As the students of Assumpta, we are aware of what is happening around the world, especially in our country. We are willing to help them by making a simple and a short video to post on social media and the people who will watch it, they will have an idea of what is happening and what happened in Marawi and they will have the urge to
From 2011-2014, I led a South Asian Bible Study group in Chiang Mai, Thailand. In our group, we had members from different backgrounds and nationalities such as: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Thailand, England, and the US. During that time, we noticed that many Pakistani Christian families, who fled from Pakistan because of persecution and draconian blasphemy laws, were seeking asylum in Thailand. My team members and I invited the Christian refugee families in our Bible study group and tried to assist them, as much as we could, so they can adjust to their new surroundings. The English language skill was one of the barriers for Pakistani Christian refugees, because most of Thai tourism jobs require good communicative English language skills, even for a mediocre job.
Every moment is a memorable part of the journey of life. I have always appreciated the value of giving to others because I believe that just being able to lend a hand to others, no matter how trivial it may be, is what makes life worth living. However, my desire to help people started when I began working with children as a teacher’s assistant. It would instill in me a lesson that I would never forget.
ASAM 100 has been one of the most insightful classes I have taken in college—so far! Through this class, I was able to learn a great deal about my culture and about myself as a person. In retrospect to my first “Why ASAM?” essay, I still believe that it is important for everybody to learn about their culture sometime throughout their life. I was able to learn about various topics such as: the issues of my culture, the traditions of my culture, how others view individuals of my culture, and more. Throughout this class, I learned about the Model Minority Myth and its effect on individuals of Asian background, I learned about issues that other Asian Americans faced through the video, Asian American Voices, and I learned to grow as a writer.
While reading Deaf Again, I couldn’t help from thinking, how I would have treated Mark through elementary school and high school. I was amazed when he said that he was so used to reading people’s lips and didn’t even notice he was deaf. I know that when I try to read people’s lips without hearing their voice it is very hard. It’s crazy how we take advantage of sound in our everyday lives as human beings. I know that I could not imagine not having the ability to hear sounds of the world.
When I joined AVID in seventh grade I was amazed how AVID works and how it can be used every day. Not only AVID helps you with your grades, but it also helps you to be more organized and a hard-working student. AVID helped me discover my full potential by showing me that I can always do better. What I mean by this is that in sixth grade I was not in AVID, I made all A’s and B’s. In seventh grade when I was in AVID, I made all A’s.
The same instincts that birthed the Peace Corps have now brought countless variations of service organizations, both domestic and abroad, in which thousands of people each year sacrifice comforts in the hopes of bettering the lives of others (“Triumph”
My Trip to Haiti It was the beginning of my junior year in high school and there had been much talk about a school trip to Port Au Prince, Haiti, Only ten students could attend this trip, applications had opened up in November and for me a trip to Haiti sounded like just a dream, I thought I was not able to afford it. The idea for the possibility to travel to a new country and be exposed to a brand new culture excited me, I made the decision to apply anyway. In December, I received news that I had been chosen as one of the first ten students from my school to go on this new service trip. I was so excited that I was even qualified, but also worried because I knew that the price was still an issue.
Link Crew as a whole provided a vision of the Deliberate Acts of Love and Kindness Campaign. As a group we recognized that it needed to be a school and community wide effort. Not a single person was capable of achieving this goal on their own. Working as a team we exemplified love, and kindness, Claire Davis’ father's wish for our school. During a leadership seminar a past Arapahoe High School principal came and spoke with us, he said “Arapahoe students are rooted in love, and love is rooted in our hearts.”
Given that I was born and raised in Puerto Rico by two Haitian parents, I’ve always had a strong concern for the poor living conditions in developing countries. For this reason, I am deeply passionate for international development focused on education, human rights and health. I consider working with the Peace Corps one of the highest possible callings. My wonderful years in academic philosophy studying Ethics and Foreign Languages have honed my ability to communicate well and sharpened my research skills. Yet, my professional goals in international affairs and development require a broad, multidisciplinary approach to program analysis, research and theory.
As a former AP Lang student, I feel that this class has been very beneficial for me in that it has allowed me to apply the techniques and strategies I learned last year toward more relevant subjects. Having the freedom of choosing topics to write about for our various essays made this class more enjoyable than the other English classes that I have taken. AP Lang focused heavily on the techniques of writing solid essays, but instead of writing about useful topics, we analyzed the short stories provided on the exams. Writing a personal narrative essay was very helpful in my college application process and allowed me to employ the same kind of strategies that I learned in class into my college essays.
This is a chance for the schools to reinforce their ethos and values. The ethos of the school should be felt in the atmosphere of the school environment as it is part of daily practise and activites planned by the teachers. It should prioritise childrens safety and with children at the centre of all
In Germany during World War Two was a time where everyone had to fight for themselves to survive, using and sacrificing others in the bloody, crippling, concentration camps. That is what almost everyone would think at first, because most humans want to live and experience what the world can offer. However, there are certain situations where people do the opposite and perform actions for the sake of others and that would harm themselves. In the comic book series of Maus by Art Spiegelman, book Night by Elie Wiesel, movie The Book Thief directed by Brian Percival, and there is a parallel idea. The common theme within these several works is self-sacrifice.
The mission is more about what the school can achieve academically and physically which is often set out by the head teacher. This is often set out as a short and meaningful motto such as; believe and you will achieve, achieve and you will succeed. The ethos of the school is more about feelings and beliefs and a sense of pride for the school and the feeling of a caring environment that adopts cooperation and respect. This is set out for the whole school to be aware of and is reinforced on a daily basis this is done by staff through activities. It enforces that childrenâ€TMs safety is paramount and that children are the center of everything.
It is the people that make things happen.” He knew very well that everyone is important. He appreciated everyone and this made everyone to identify their value of existence in the organization and even in the world. People often say that “It’s not about who you are, but who you know”. Uncle Lim always believed that treating everyone well means securing the assistance when
Everyone belongs to a social class. Whatever reality you been born in, is going to shape the way you believe and act. Each individual is different and unique, however, is not unknown that the experiences we had over our life shape our identity. In the movie Elysium, the Earth has been contaminated. The rich people flew away to a new land created in the space named Elysium, which left those with less money behind.
