At The Crossroads Analysis

“Mary Moon and the stars” written by Janice Galloway is a short story in which the main character Mary is who we “........................” This is due to the techniques the writer has used these include character, setting, language and symbolism. The author has used the appropriate techniques which results in her success.

The Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified on July 28, 1868. The amendment granted citizenship to everyone who was born or naturalized in the United States, which included former slaves and African Americans who were freed after the Civil War. Also, the amendment allowed African Americans to be treated equally as all other citizens. However, the Black Codes, Jim Crow Laws, and the result of the Plessy v. Ferguson case took away these rights that were guaranteed to African Americans.

In life, many events can contribute to the way we act, the way we think and the choices we make. Essentially, a person goes through certain life changing events that may leave a huge imprint on their lives. Some changes can be very microscopic leaving little to no impression at all . However, other events such as , getting married, having a baby, or graduating college can change someone 's life drastically. For me, the life-changing event that changed my life was moving to Jacksonville Florida.

Before we look at the different Social/Psychological Determinants of Health it is important firstly to define what a social determinant of health is. According to the World Health Organization (2017) “The social determinants of health are the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work and age.” These conditions are as a result of a wide range of factors that are ultimately governed by the way in which money, power and specific resources are shared at different levels including those at global, national and local levels. We have all been a part of and will experience different social determinants of health throughout our lives but it is the standard at which we experience these determinants that will ultimately lead onto them affecting our health or ultimately leaving us unaffected.

Beneatha Younger struggles to find her real identity throughout the whole play, “A Raisin in the Sun.” She strives to become a doctor despite being a women. Throughout the whole play she tries out a handful of hobbies that she takes up during the play. She tries out horse riding and then she wants to learn to play the guitar. After reading the book The Other Wes Moore many themes seem to nudge at you to realize many things that happen that you might not notice in everyday life. One of the life lessons that really plays a role in my life is loss, faith, and redemption. Loss. This word can mean different things depending on the person and their experiences. Loss might mean an event that causes immoderate feelings of despondency. To another person, it might be so simple as losing an object that meant a lot to them. These losses can impact the rest of someone 's life. I have experienced this feeling within the last year. My mom has been really sick recently and lots of things have changed even over the past few years, but only a few months ago would it really make the biggest impact in my opinion. In the novel The Other Wes Moore there are two boys named Wes Moore that goes through many struggles through life. One of the Wes Moore’s is now excelling with many recognitions and has become very successful even after all of the struggles he went through. Contrastingly the “other” Wes Moore is now in prison for the rest of his life due to an armed robbery. Before his sentence many things played a role in where he ended up today, including of a loss that would forever change his life.

The most influential novel that I read this year is The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. Walls’s memoir had moving themes of strength, perseverance and forgiveness. It also caused me to have passionate reactions. Finally, The Glass Castle impacted me the most because it forced me to reconsider my opinion of homeless people. This novel was a beneficial reading experience.

After her Junior year in high school, she planned on moving to New York City. Her mom did not show any feelings other than jealousy of Jeannette’s decision. On the other hand, her father showed remorse for her daughter’s choice. He tried his best to convince Jeannette to stay with the family. In Confetti Girl by Diana Lopez, the narrator has a very different viewpoint of the situation than her dad. First, they definitely do not agree on priorities. I the story, it states, “Nothing’s more important than his books and vocabulary words. He might say I matter, but when he goes on a scavenger hunt for a book, I realize that I really don’t.” This shows that the narrator’s dad doesn’t take her opinion into account when he is choosing books for her. She feels like he doesn’t care. The dad, however, is trying to teach the narrator new words so that she can do well in school. He means well, but he really doesn’t listen to her. Next, they both can’t see the full effect of their actions. the narrator feels like her dad is trying to get her to be always reading and be 100% on top of her schoolwork at all times, but he is really suppressing her, and she doesn’t respond well to this. the narrator doesn’t see the effect of her actions because when she is telling her dad that she will read the books he picks out for her and then doesn’t, this would hurt her dad. This quote shows how words can change people 's perspectives, just as books can change lives. The book Burned by Ellen Hopkins knows how to emote the simplest and realist of events. This book should be kept on shelves because of how the book shows different relationships, growing up, and how to cope with life when it goes bad.

Have you ever gone through a situation that has impacted your whole life? The three stories that show a turning point are Eleven, Hatchet, and The Road Not Taken. The three main people in my essay are Brian, Rachel, and the narrator in The Road Not Taken. All of these characters have gone through a turning point which has changed their lives.
