Athena was chosen for her courageousness and for being unique, not the typical cliche reasons like “She wore armor” , “She fought in wars and kicked butt”. In all honesty, she is very different from the other gods / goddesses. She may be a well known goddess but the reason why she is well known is because of what she has done for the Greek Civilization and why still till this day she is praised for what she has done and has that title. Athena is culturally so significant because no matter where you go or look about about her, theres all these stories , statues , items , etc. that involved her or represent her. What she wore like her armor shows a lot of representation of her image in general for a woman like her in that day of
She birthed the first race of humans and gods called Titans. To all gods and human alike, she was the supreme goddess. The Titan Prometheus was also a Greek god who was a clever trickster. Athena is portrayed as a spirit person that cares deeply for Odysseus without any sexual interest. Athena is a major character throughout the book of The Odyssey and is known as the goddess of wisdom and battle. Throughout the course of the book, it is evident that Athena has a weak spot for the main character, Odysseus. Odysseus is trying to return home after the Trojan War, as the other Greek hero’s have already done, however he faces multiple challenges a long the way. Fortunately, for Odysseus, Athena was there to guide him through a few of these troubling situations.
Amongst the many women portrayed in the book, the two most important women are Athena and Penelope. Athena is the Goddess of wisdom, courage, law & justice, strength and skills. She plays the role of a mentor in disguise for Odysseus but doesn’t show him the full path to his destination as Athena wants Odysseus to fight and prevail on his own. Athena possesses the ability to disguise herself and others, and this skill allows her to give advice and guidance.

Although multiple interpretations can be made into what was intended by Mary, since the title of the work includes “A Modern Prometheus” Greek mythology is inarguably present in her work. Similar to Prometheus Victor exceeds what the gods allow, and as a result of this is punished.
In Greece the Greeks looked up to the gods and goddesses of the Greek culture. The gods and goddesses were the rulers of Greece and had the most power. They over saw everything the humans would do whether it being barbaric or civilized. There were a number of Greek gods and goddesses, but some over powered others. They fought in many wars and helped humans accomplish many different activities in order for them to survive.
My own fame is for wisdom among the gods --deceptions too.” (The Odyssey 13.379-384.) She acts as his advisor and protector, aiding him constantly through his journey to return to Ithaca. She even addresses the other gods about Odysseus’s situation, and “if it... pleases the
Athena uses her role as the puppeteer to allow the entire epic to slowly unfold. Without Athena there would be no epic about Odysseus returning home from the brutal Trojan War for the reader to enjoy and the term “odyssey” would not be used to describe a long journey. Athena is the key to the entire story; consequently The Odyssey is her story. The Odyssey is Athena’s story because she plays the role of the puppeteer that causes the events to take place.
