Atlantic Project Reflection

When I was young, I used to watch surgeries on TV with my mom. I still continue to watch medical shows on TV or watch surgeries on Snapchat from doctors who record their surgeries for their viewers to watch. I have a passion to help others, and by working in the medical field, I will have the opportunity to help others every day. I’ve wanted to become a surgeon since I was about 4 or 5 years old, and my career plan has not changed once. Each day that passes, I get more passionate and excited about my future as a medical student, and eventually a surgeon.

I believe that life is shaped by unique ambitions that seem so magical at a young age. My life so far has been a striking example of this. Ever since my childhood biology and especially medical sciences have never failed to fascinate me. One of my distinct memories from middle school is a lecture on cell biology and physiology. I was amazed at how something so microscopic could be so well-organized and carry out functions that have such a profound effect on the entire organism.

Coincidentally, just this year I have obtained a firm grasp as to what I feel my beliefs and values are. I came to the realization of these values and beliefs when we had to write a personal mission statement in my Health Explorations class at Eau Gallie High School. It truly took me almost two weeks to write my mission statement, partially because I was not sure who I was. My mission statement was, “Thru my positive attitude, and values I will continuously strive to enrich the lives of those around me who struggle with life’s obstacles and challenges.” I value living life through positivity and having a positive attitude.

My name is Lilian Rodriguez and I am El Paso, Texas. I will be graduating from UT Austin in a few weeks with a major in Health Promotion. I really enjoy working with children. I am reliable and responsible. I am really outgoing once I feel comfortable with my environment.

However, when it comes to clinical, I wanted to continue my learning experience without stopping because I love it so much. So as usual, I always feel so excited and looking forward to my clinical days. Every clinical experience is very unique for me and so does my patients. This

We have come such a long way in helping people with technology over the years. I learned that ultrasound can help warm muscles up in spots that are hard to warm up. Since I will be taking kinesiology next semester and I am really looking forward to it. I asked Nicole what some of the content will be like in the class.

Additionally I received the “Best athlete” award due to my contribution as a Volleyball player, sport I have practices my whole life. My desire to know everything and learn more, added to the trips to the south of Chile with my family every summer, led me to study Agriculture, in the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. A very wide career, with many different areas of study, such as math, biology, genetic, statistics, physics, among others. A world full of things to learn and discover.

I first became interested in UCLA by attending the “I’m Going to College” events during middle school. After attending my first event I was awestruck with the passion and pride the university students had. That night I came home to research the nursing programs provided. The thought of potentially being able to complete my clinical immersions at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center is something I am looking forward to. The Wooden Center is also something at UCLA I am interested to get involved with.

I researched how to volunteer with the Veterans Administration online and found that for those who wished to volunteer process included a minimum of 100 hours of service, fingerprinting for a background investigation, an in-house orientation, and obtaining a V.A. identification badge. I was excited, so I went to Jefferson Barracks the very next day. After getting lost a couple of times in the buildings, I finally found the right department. Unfortunately, I was told that the person who handled volunteer services had just gone to lunch and would be back in one hour. I started to leave but decided to stay instead.

I competed in the HOSA district regional competition during my junior year and placed in the top five for my health career display. Subsequently, I went on to compete at the HOSA state competition, which showed me many of the possibilities available for a career in the field of healthcare. I have been a HOSA officer during both my junior and senior year. At HOSA annual leadership conferences, I have packed thousands of meals for Stop Hunger Now. These meals are sent to schools in impoverished countries, such as Haiti, thereby promoting education while reducing world hunger.

Holding a diploma in my hands and going to college has been one of my dearest dreams; I have always believed in reaching my maximum potential and dreamed numerous times of being able to go to medical school, study, help and lead my community through the medical field. Ever since I was a little girl, I knew I wanted to become a doctor, I have always been amazed and feel an immense interest in learning specifically about biology and medicine; I feel a serious motivation towards understanding how the human body works; each organ, tissue and every cell interests me; I desire to learn and understand how the diseases manifest, how to diagnose and master each technique to treat them;I am extremely committed to my education and to reaching my goal which is to become a doctor.

Family is key. In the book, The Other Wes Moore by Wes Moore, it is about two boys that grew up in the same area with the same name. The book talks about how one boy becomes a Rhode Scholar and the other is serving life in prison from an armed robbery shooting. The events happen are because of their family and how they influence them. In the book, The Other Wes Moore, the author explores the idea of family to develop the theme of having a supportive family is the difference between being successful and failing your goals.

The book, The Devil’s Highway by Luis Alberto Urrea, is based on the true story of the Yuma-14 or Wellstone 26, who were Mexicans that crossed the American border and died while doing so. This novel goes through not only the story of the Yuma-14 but the background of what happened before their journey and after their deaths, as well as the mentalities of the Border Patrol agents. It gives you the complete picture of what had happened. The Devil’s Highway starts off with a brief background about what happened.
