Passing by the Wal-Mart on Azalea shopping center in South Gate, CA walk in and spend money on things you don’t know what they are for. How do we end up buying things we don’t need? Wal-Mart stores know how to manipulate space to have an effect on people’s shopping behavior. External, general interior, layout and decorations variables plays an important role on attract customers. The surrounding of the outside of the Wal-Mart is what going to attract the customer first. The customer will ask them self “Can I find parking?” “It’s a good area to go shopping”. The external is first factor that will come into play to attract customers. The Wal-Mart has palm trees front of the stores that gives that peace full sensation. They have two entries/exits one in the right and the other in the left. They have vending machine between the two entries. They have products next to the entries that are for sale. Discount posters are large so they could see it from far distance. The store is paint in a brownish color with sky blue color so, the customers could enter into their shopping mode. In this gap you could get a shopping cart and see some product in special. The color of this small gap is sky blue and make you feel relax. They have some vending machine so you could get a snack on your way in or out. Once enter the store the first thing you will be some flowers plus more product are for sale.
The Wal-Mart is very clean and with the white lighting it makes the floor look shining. They have enough workers to be spread out so they could maintain the place clean. They have no windows, this affect our time schedule. In the article “Effect of Light on Human Circadian Physiology” by Jeanne F. Duffy and Charles A. Czeisler they state “light exposure can affect the period of the human circadian system is also limited”. Once we inside the Wal-Mart we can’t see the outside world. Our circadian clock can’t track time so, we spend more time in the store. With the bright lights we think time haven’t
