Atticus Is A Good Father

A young lady committed a crime; a victim was involved. Her father witnessed the unspeakable act, and punished her to teach a lesson of consequences. The father realized the casualty would make his daughter’s shameful ways known to the community. In an attempt to save her from her sins, he found a different story. One where the victim was the real offender, because his daughter was innocent. This is an event that took place in Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird. It may not seem familiar, because it’s placed at a distinct angle, Bob Ewell’s. He pointed the blame in a different direction, and the innocent Tom Robinson, was found guilty. Throughout the novel To Kill a MockingBird Atticus proves his greatness as a father by teaching his children life lessons through everyday actions. In the novel, Scout and Jem go through many rocky bumps in their life, and with Atticus they receive a stable role model to lead them through harder times. Atticus being a lawyer could have made him into a very serious busy man who could have paid little to no attention to his young children. But being a lawyer helped mold Atticus and his children into well rounded and educated people. By the end of the novel Atticus has changed his children into disciplined and reasonable human beings.

One of the most powerful people in a person's life is their dad. This is an important philosophy in our society. However, opinions on what makes a father such a powerful figure in our lives vary. I believe a father must be strong and able to provide and protect the family. A father must be there for the family to lean on, they have to be the core of the family. Without each of these traits a dad is not good at being a father. In the story “ To Kill A Mockingbird” Atticus Finch is a very good father. Atticus is willing to explain everything to Jem and Scout.  Mr. Finch always expects good behavior out of Jem and Scout. Atticus also provides everything for his family.

Parenting to some is a never ending struggle. Just when people think they have it down, it throws another challenge. In Lee's novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, a character is introduced as a human guide to parenting. Atticus Finch is a lawyer in Maycomb, Alabama. He has two children, Scout, and Jem. They can be difficult at many moments , but Atticus handles them very well. He shows his unique tactics of parenting throughout the book. Atticus is the epitome of a role model by demonstrating love, leadership, and discipline to his children.

Jem and Scout learn about respect from their father Atticus. Atticus is a prime example of a respectable man. He stands up for what’s right, and for what he believes in no matter what other people think. Atticus is the lawyer for Tom Robinson, the man falsely accused of raping a white girl. Atticus teaches Jem and Scout, that just because a man is black he is not a bad person. He teaches them not to judge a person by the color of their skin.

Donald Trump once said, “sometimes by losing a battle you find a new way to win the war.” Atticus Finch fights a battle against Maycomb County and although he knows that he will not win he brings Maycomb a step closer to justice. In To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee utilizes characters, setting, and conflicts in order to illustrate Aunt Alexandra’s acceptance of Scout, Francis ‘ prejudice, and Atticus’ urge for equality.

Atticus has molded his children by exposing them to people in the town of Maycomb who have questionable morals in order to teach his children acceptance. Jem and Scout live in a primarily racist society and learn quickly that the children's

As a father Atticus has done everything he can to maintain his children, Jem and Scout, informed of what really is like out there in the real world. Honesty seems to be Atticus rout when dealing with life. In times Atticus will lose trial but the courage he has won’t allow him to give up on innocent people, like Tom. Atticus is the definition of role model to follow. He’s a great father to his children showing the the truth will always push them forwards in life. Not only that he believe everyone in this world is a mockingbird who isn’t truly known till walked in their shoes. LAstly his pride in taking a stand for someone who only has hope in himself is beyond exceptional for anyone else. Finally remember to treat other the way you want to be treated and don’t just assume, become them for a minute

Atticus became not only a role model for Scout and Jem but a role model for the whole town. He taught you not to be so quick to judge everything. From Boo Radley to Walter Cunningham, he shows how to accept people for who they are and to get know them before you judge them. “Because that is they only way he can pay me, he has no money” (Lee 21). When Scout saw the Cunninghams paying in different things like Hickory nuts and Stovewood, she was quick to question the payment. In the quote it demonstrates how Atticus has to simply explain to the Scout, you should never look at someone differently based on how much money they have. You should look at them for who they are. Some people are not as fortunate as others, it is not there fault, but like they Cunningham 's, they find a way. Atticus did not only open the kids eyes to how you should not judge someone, but also, to stand up for what you believe in, despite what others might say. When Atticus is presented with the Tom Robinson case, without much thought, he says yes to being his lawyer. He knows the rest of the town will disapprove, but he believes in the innocence of this man and does not care of his complexion. In this moment, Scout and Jem only see how everyone will downgrade them and see them differently. Atticus shows, it does not matter what others think, all that matters is that you support what you believe in. This shows how Atticus is a strong character who contributes a lot to the overall lesson

Atticus Finch is the parent of two children, Jean Louise Finch, formerly known as Scout and Jeremy Finch, formerly known as Jem in Harper Lee’s novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. Atticus is considered a role model in the eyes of a parent reading the novel, but what they do not know is how ineffective of a parent Atticus Finch really is. Atticus Finch is an ineffective parent because of his lack of safety for his children and the inability to control Jem and Scout outside of their home. Atticus constantly endangers Jem and Scout into situations they should not be exposed to at such an early age. Without the supervision of Atticus outside the Finch household, they commit acts of anarchy. Atticus Finch is simply a pathetic parent.

Atticus is a morally upright person who teaches his kids a number of important life lessons and leads by example. In Chapter 3, of To Kill A Mockingbird Atticus shows an interest in Scouts feelings as he is quick to notice that something is bothering her. Scout tells Atticus of her rough first day at school and teaches her an important lesson. Atticus says, “if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you 'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view" (Lee 39). Atticus also continuously advises Scout and Jem to maintain self-control and to engage in respectful behaviors throughout the book. In Chapter 9, Scout asks Atticus if he defends “niggers” Atticus explains to Scout that he will be defending a man named Tom

He shows this by saying, ‘’’If I didn’t, I couldn’t hold up my head in the town, I couldn’t represent this country is legislature, I couldn’t even tell you or Jem not to do something.’’’ (pg 75). This shows he is a good parent because he is providing positivity towards his town. By taking the case of Tom Robinson he is making a clear view of what the community should look like. He is setting an example towards his children Jem and Scout. He is not only doing it for Tom Robinson, he is doing it for himself as well. Secondly, Atticus stands up for what is right because the moment he is asked to take Tom Robinson’s case he doesn’t think twice. He knew that someone who is innocent should not have to go to trial for something they did not do. He thinks racism should have an end. By taking this case he not only opens the eyes for his children, he opens the eyes of his peers and community members. He is showing that no matter the race you do what is right. No matter the opinion of others, if you know something is wrong, stand tall and take charge. This is a positive role model where his kids can follow in his footsteps, look up to him and understand the rights and wrongs of things. Lastly, Atticus says, ‘’’I wanted you to see what real courage is...it’s when you know you 're licked before you begin but you begin

With his ample and persuasive demeanor, he teaches his children to love everyone, especially those who treat them with disdain and indifference. He demonstrates his striving love toward even the hardest of folk in his statement about Mrs. Dubose, “I certainly am [a nigger-lover]. I do my best to love everybody . . . I’m hard to put, sometimes--baby, it’s never an insult to be called what somebody thinks is a bad name. It just shows you how poor that person is, it doesn’t hurt you. So don’t let Mrs. Dubose get you down. She has enough troubles of her own” (pg. 124). Consequently, this short sentiment displays Atticus’ unfailing desire to find everyone agreeable despite the circumstances and does well as an example for his growing children. Furthermore, he presents his unconditional love by following, possibly unconsciously, the commandments of the Bible where it lies said, “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4). Not once in the pages of the To Kill a Mockingbird novel does Atticus result into severe and unfair disciple toward Jem and Scout, rather he determinedly instructs them in the ways of tenderness. Relentlessly, he seeks to find good in everyone, proving his pure character to his children who considerably look up to

He is not controlling his children’s futures. He makes it so that they can grow up the way they want to. Scout hangs out with Jem and Dill often and she acts like a boy. Most of the women in maycomb does not like it, especially her aunt. So she convinces Atticus to tell Jem and scout to live up to their names of the Finches. Scout does not believe her father would say this and cries. She does not want to remember it and she does not want to act the way her aunt wants her to. Atticus then realizes that this is not who he is and says, “Forget it”(179). This shows that no matter what anyone says, Atticus will let Scout be who she wants to be. Another time is when Scout first starts to go to school, her teacher notices that Scout already knows how to read. The teacher then says that she can not read anymore. Scout complains about this to her father and says she does not want to go to school anymore. Atticus compromises, “If you’ll concede the necessity of going to school, we’ll go on reading every night”(41). This shows that not only he wants his child to go to school, but he also lets the child do what she is obligated to
