To Kill a Mockingbird took place in a small town in Alabama, Maycomb. It is a story about a white lawyer defending an African American who was accused of raping. It is also a story about the courage. After Mrs. Dubose passed away, Atticus told Jem what she did is the real courage. However, not only Mrs. Dubose but also Atticus himself showed the true meaning of courage to us. Atticus could disregard risks of his own life. When Atticus knew that the mob were trying to lynch Tom Robinson, he went to the jail to defend Tom.
