Select a recent, local, national, or international problem and explain why it is meaningful to you. How do you anticipate your college experience and your pursuit of your intended major/academic interest will help you develop a greater understanding of this issue? An issue close to my own heart is one that affects women on a local, national, and international level. Misrepresentation and underrepresentation of women in the media is something that has been around since media of any form first started, but despite the ever-growing diversity of our nation and the world, the staggeringly low number of women in mainstream media has only gotten marginally better.
Thai Woman vs. American Women “Girls have an unfair advantage over men; if they can’t get what they want by being smart, they can get it by being dumb.” Yul Brynner *** A man once wrote me asking my opinion on how Thai women compare with American women. “What are the Thai women like...are they like American women? The stereotypes have brought negative recognition to these ethnic groups. According to an article by Simply Psychology, stereotypes can interfere when an introduction to another race occurs. An individual might sum up the person characteristic based on the stereotypes of the person’s ethnicity. An individual can assume that all Asian Americans are Chinese, and therefore can speak the Chinese’s language as well. This is a negative stereotype of an Asian American that they encounter in their own country.
Ethnicity and Hollywood Racism is always issues which take a huge part of American history. Until the twenty-first century, although people tried to make the country becomes the freedom and equality nation, these issues are still happening everywhere. According to "In Living Color: Race and American Culture," Stuart Hall argues that racism is still widespread in the society and "it is widely invisible even to those who formulate the world in its terms" (qtd. in Omi 683). Indeed, situations about race quietly exist in the movie industry, which "has led to the perpetuation of racial caricatures" to the majority audiences and even minority audiences (Omi 629).

Kang brings to light a new service labor (body labor), an insight into the growing Korean immigrant community, the topic of racialized and gendered stereotyping as well as the inequality between women of different races and social status. Through this reading, we see that Kang works from the notion of Hochschild’s emotional labor; Kang takes it a step further and introduces body labor. Body labor is the designated commercialized exchange in which service workers attend to the physical comfort and appearance of the customers

The responsibility of a woman being a mother comes or should come natural. Therefore a mother would do any and everything to protect their child. Sologon, whom is the mother of Sundiata portrayed this trait of a woman by fleeing with her son Sundiata to Timbuktu to avoid him being killed. Raisin in the Sun: Gender Roles Defied Following the event of World War Two, America during the 1950s was an era of economic prosperity. Male soldiers had just returned home from war to see America “at the summit of the world”(Churchill). Many Americans were confident that the future held nothing other than peace and prosperity, so they decided to start families. However, the 1950s was also a time of radical changes. Because most of the men in the family had departed to fight in the war, women were left at home to do the housework.

Women first gained the right to vote the 17th of December 1945 (NDL, 2004), which is 30 years after Denmark, 1915, and more than 50 years after New Zealand, 1893 (Log, 2015). There are a lot of traditions in Japan, and expectations to the Japanese population, but how is it shown in the society? And most importantly, what kind of pressure is on the population, and how does it affect them?
