• .The Thinking Hand by Juhani Pallasmaa • The Poetics of Space. In addition to the books, the dissertation explores the articles and conducted surveys published in journals in order to learn about the present scenario of architectural spaces related to the research topic. While researching and learning about the relationship between architecture and poetry,I have gone through many articles and now the summary of those articles are as follows. 2.2.1) ARTICLE BY MARIA LORENA LEHMAN(what is truly poetic architecture) Poetic architecture taps into that moment when architecture transcends itself, when it becomes more than simply a physical space — and exudes to a sense of place and beauty that words cannot often describe. Thus, to explore the issue of poetic architecture, to get your mind thinking of how to make more out of your work, and to become more aware of the poetics which surround you — so such poetic thinking will come more readily to you while you design. 2.2.2) ARTICLE BY KATE COGHAN (common between architecture and poetry) The essay is an exploration of narrative as a common denominator between poetry and architecture. How can one form of structuring experience contribute to
Poetry is the literature created from the soul. The idea behind poetry feeds from the emotion and the creativity given by the author. For some, Poetry is understood as the desire for no written rules or room for boundaries. This reflection will present an analysis of the various techniques and interventions which develops a poem. The reflection will also compare and critic the works of Charles Olson (1997) and Jill Jones (2009).
In a letter to his brother, the great painter, Vincent Van Gogh, once wrote,“Poetry surrounds us everywhere, but putting it on paper is, alas, not so easy as looking at it”. In this quote, Van Gogh summarizes a subject great writers like Ralph Waldo Emerson has devoted entire essays to defining and explaining, and that is the subject of poetry. As it can be seen, a poet undertakes that almost impossible job of transposing what he or she sees in Nature on to paper for others to read. Only a true poet can be successful in an attempt. It is not just Nature a poet tries to capture into words, but also social experiences and human truths.
The Architectural Fantasy by Hubert Robert is an oil painting created in 1802. For an architectural painting, is displays much emotion through the use of color, line, and light. The painting does not utilize a multitude of colors but still is able to provide an exciting scene. Although it does not appear to be that large in the gallery, the work would actually be prominent if it were a standalone piece. The artist’s use of perspective, light, and color give the overall composition a balanced look.
Poems give incredibly powerful feelings to people and that is what makes poems so powerful and creative. Poems use words that are used every day and turn it into an amazing
The most significant architectural features of the building are: • It’s battered walls-thinner at the top than at the bottom to give an impression of solidarity and height. •The diamond panned windows incorporated without a style break. •the columns of reeds bunched together with palm leaf
Poetry is a very unique type of writing. Poetry allows people to express their emotions in a way they feel comfortable. Every poem has a meaning to it, whether it is talking about food, interest, or a moment in their lives. Readers often mistake the poet as the narrator, although in many cases this is true. Many poets are the narrators and the poems are about their personal life.
Poetry is a subtle form of writing, and reviewing poetry requires a deep understanding of the elements that constitute a poem. Poetry allows us to express feelings and emotions that are inside us all. It can also be put into any of these broad sub-genres: narrative, dramatic, or lyric. Often times people associate poetry with a short, and confusing group of words that usually leaves people scratching their heads, but surprisingly a poem can also be a favorite song. Songs are considered poetry as well because it gives people the ability to connect emotionally with the lyrics that are being sung.
G. L. Hersey, Ph.D. is a former Professor Emeritus of the History of Art, Yale University. World Book Online is a collection of reliable sources and articles relating to everything from current scientific research to ancient civilizations. One limitation of this source is its greatest asset, its overview of the vast history of architecture. This investigation is looking only at a short time period, and the source contains lots of information outside of the Middle
The building was beautiful. There was so many stairs. The design was magnificent. A beautiful structure. There was characters and different forms of other art carved into the walls.
Poetry is an important part of literature which conveys an author 's ideas across to the reader through the use of descriptive language. Poetry helps an author to express their inner emotions and often incorporates various poetic devices which enriches the text. Poetry gives the reader a different perspective and when read closely, can give the audience a look into the authors imagination. Likewise, poetic devices enhance the writing and can drastically change the mood of the poem, as well as, how the reader interprets the poem. Poetic devices are important in literature because they help to convey a message, add spontaneity to a poem, and give the reader a strong visual.
Poetry is a piece of literature where the author shares his ideas of a subject or person. He is attempting to allow the reader an understanding of his feelings regarding this subject. Most of the time poetry can be very pleasing to the ear; however, at times it can be written in a manner that is odd. Some poetry is written in a way that the reader can “hear”, “feel”, “see” or “taste” elements in the poem. Some poems may rhyme while others may not need to in order to convey the message.
Tectonics is defined as the science or art of construction, both in relation to use and artistic design. It refers not just to the activity of making the materially requisite construction that answers certain needs but rather to the activity that raises this construction as an art form. It is concerned with the modeling of material to bring the material into presence - from the physical into the meta-physical world (Maulden, 1986). Since tectonics is primarily concerned with the making of architecture in a modern world, its value is seen as being a partial strategy for an architecture rooted in time and place therefore beginning to bring poetry in construction. Tectonics, however, has the capacity to create depth-ness of context resulting in the implicit story being told by the tectonic expression.
These sensory signals have a large impact on our relationship and experience of an environment because they are able to physically and emotionally engage and connect us to the architecture. Although these types of sensorial qualities may not make or break the successfulness of architecture, they must remain of high importance because of their ability to reinforce an individual’s personal connection to a place. Juhani Pallasmaa, claims that our design culture has forgotten the importance of the senses in engaging our whole being- physical and emotional- in an architectural experience. This theory speaks to an experience that goes beyond a visual relationship between a person and architecture.
The style of the building and the purpose it is built give a brief and thoughtful storybook about the culture of the architect as art, generally, and architecture, particularly, is a language itself. Thus, buildings narrate the stories of the people among the history and tell their traditions and habits to the next generation through its design, inscriptions, and details. In this essay, I will discuss how both the style and function of the Greek Parthenon and the Roman Pantheon served as typical examples of their cultures in Athens and ancient Rome. In addition to the similarities and differences between these two cultures through the two buildings. Both the Greek and the Roman architecture inspired the cultures and architects until these days due to the diverse meaning they carry and symbolize in astonishing ways through the different orders, columns, roofs, friezes, and domes.
The research need, aim, question, objectives and an outline of the overall research design are summarised. The chapter concludes by outlining the overall structure of the dissertation. 1.1 The Nature of Architecture as a Profession To understand the significance of role of client and critical impact of architect- client relationship in the design process, one needs to first understand the nature of architecture as a professional activity. Architecture has been described as a combination of art as well as craftsmanship, social science as well as engineering.
