Since the day the Latin entered the curriculum of schools as a foreign language, an infinite number of attempts have taken place to improve the methods of teaching foreign languages. Many teachers, linguists, and scholars have contributed to shaping the approaches to foreign language teaching as we see them today. Many different methods and approaches to language teaching have been proposed to improve language teaching and make it more suitable for the varying needs of learners. Almost every method was advocated by some and opposed by others. However, the contributions of those interested in language teaching and learning were not confined to setting general approaches or specific methods, they also suggested various concepts and ideas that, …show more content…
Some scholars believe that any written or spoken text can be considered authentic if produced by native-speakers or the language community. However, Widdowson differentiated between two types of texts: genuine texts which are produced by the language speakers in real-life communications, and authentic texts which relate to how learners perceive the text and interact with it (Pinner, 2014).. Widdowson's distinction seems to be very coherent with Morrow's definition of authenticity as ‘real language produced by a real speaker or writer for a real audience and designed to convey a real message’ because both consider the source and function of a given text (as cited by Pinner, 2014). To some researchers, a text is authentic in its original context and once it is taken out of its context to the classroom context, which is different socially and culturally, the text turns to be pedagogic since it undergoes recontextualization (MacDonald, Badger, & Dasli, …show more content…
Researchers who advocate the importance of authenticity have listed some benefits for using authentic materials. According to Little, Devitt & Singleton (1989), because of their communicative nature, learners enjoy authentic texts more than contrived texts that focus only on demonstrating the linguistic features of the language. Also, authentic texts enhance the chance of learner's acquisition since they provide a richer linguistic content; since learners' attention is drawn mostly to the content not the structure, they are more likely to subconsciously learn a greater amount of vocabulary and syntactic structures. Based on research on vocabulary development in the L1 which can also be applied to the L2, vocabulary can be learned by being exposed to them in context or by formal teaching. Using authentic materials and tasks encourages both ways of vocabulary development. In addition, authentic materials can eventually make learners immersed in the target language just like how they are in their first language and this promotes better acquisition of the target
Kindred Argumentative Essay Love is more addictive than drugs. It exploits a person’s weakness. Love consumes a person and opens the gate to a number of overwhelming feelings that wouldn’t open for anything else. It is uncontrollable no matter how hard a person will resist from it.

Unit 2: EA2 Argumentative Essay Reflection What I feel I did well on this argumentative essay was my research. I had many sources that provided me with facts and statistics and they helped me to decide what side I was on. There were many sources that I did not use but that I had read through. In life some feel the need to prove something to others. That they are better, stronger, or even more intelligent. Whatever the case may be people will go through extreme measures to prove themselves. But who do we really need to prove anything to? Is it our parents?
When I out grew my Shetland pony, my mother and I decided it was time to start looking for a horse for me to continue my riding career on. We had no idea at that time, that horse would be a starving, broke to only the basics, and a recent failure of a pre-purchase veterinarian exam, due to an injury to his fetlock. When we went to meet Hank, who was eventually renamed to Juble, I knew immediately that he was the horse for me, my mom wasn’t as convinced. Much like myself, my mom has a huge heart for animals, especially the ones in harmful environments, which means after minimal begging, she agreed to purchase Juble. This began the long process of helping him put on more weight, helping his swollen fetlock heal, and gaining his trust.
This year’s StayClassy fundraising initiative was record-setting. The State Fundraising initiative was able to raise $111,211 surpassing its goal and breaking records. This was primarily due to matching grants and strong dedication from JSA student leaders. It was a grassroots effort with many individual contributions under $50. Next year, I hope to further improve the State Fundraising initiative on StayClassy and set new records.
With the year-round pressure pertaining to college applications on high school seniors follows the impending decision of choosing an appropriate college major. Generally, the decision-making process involves prioritizing one field of interest over another, however, due to globalization and constant innovation in technology determining a college major has increasingly become the modern day equivalent of the metaphorical line between life and death. Even so, the obvious choice would be the prestigious STEM fields over liberal arts due to the instant job opportunities which are seemingly ludicrous to a recent graduate. Nevertheless, liberal arts education should be encouraged to be pursued at higher education institutions in USA because it helps

Noel, a 6-month old golden retriever, arrives on the front porch step of SICSA with a gleefully wagging tail and a heart bursting with love. Unfortunately, no room exists at SICSA for Noel, and they must turn her away to a shelter that can only do one thing: euthanize her. The argument over whether or not communities should institute no-kill shelters presents itself all over Ohio. Multiple people in Ohio believe that no-kill shelters cause financial stress on the community and prove to be a substantial hassle. However, in reality, no-kill shelters lower the overall costs of animal control with multiple methods.
