Morrison 's writings concentrate on rural Afro-American communities, especially their cultural identity and inheritance. Through out Morrison 's novel, she never depends on whites for main characters. This novel contains a number of autobiographical elements. While its historical context is clear, the literary context of the "Bluest Eye" is more complex.

The story of pecola 's tragedy, as in Greek tragedy, is known by the reader from the beginning. The power of the story will not come from surprise. "the bluest eye" is split into an untitled prologue and four large units, each named after a season. The four larger units begin with "Autumn" and end in "summer" with each unit splits into smaller section. The prologue foreshadows the major incidents of the plot "her is the house It is green and white. It has arid door. It is very pretty. Her is the family" (the bluest eye 17) the prologue shows the perfect world of the happy white family which is contrary the world pecola realizes. Firstly, cholly Breedlove was humiliated by white hunters when a young boy, and the shame stuck with him. Abandoned by both of his parents, he has no concept of parenting. He rapes his daughter, skipping town when she becomes pregnant. Cholly defines himself as a "free man" because not only does he function on the surrounding society as other black people are expected to, but he also lives outside the society of the black society. Morrison depends on symbolism in the "bluest eye". The Breed love 's name is suggestive and ironic, "love" is exactly what the family lacks, and certainly they are unable to generate more of it, as suggested by the word "breed". Breed become an ominous reference to what cholly ends up doing with his own daughter.
Secondly, Pauline, mother of pecola, starts anger towards her daughter after she has been fired by a white employer and treated like an animal by white doctors . she begins perversely to treat pecola with the same way . she is cruel , and she looks at her daughter 's
