Managing a workforce with different cultures, ethics, and also generational differences. The four generations of American works Tradition, Baby Boom, Generation X and Generation Y. The traditional generations are the oldest generation in the workforce this includes people born before 1945.This generation is molded by events such as the great depression and the World War 2 among many other events. They have great respect for authority, their word was a bond. They are known as the loyal and hardworking generation.

So how do you manage so many generations? You first need to identify with whether they are they hands on or are they a must be taught and shown what needs to done. I say a good manager’s work will show by how the employees treat them. As I researched for this paper I couldn’t help but think back over the years and all the people I’ve worked with how the younger kids seem to think that life gets handed to them. As a manager you have to think of a way to motivate them to work hard and show up on time. One thing I seen employers doing more frequently is a point system you get to many points you lose your job. I am against that you can lose an employee who’s worked for you fifteen years over a death or mayor Sergey on a loved one. In my opinion the best mangers have good communication with each generation. We live in a world full of people waiting on your job are you willing to show me why I should pick and keep you as an employee?

So how do you keep them happy with the pay? In my research I found that people like to know that the company they’re employed for do reviews and give them feedback and that’s when they have the opportunity to talk about pay why am I making this much. It makes them feel like they have a voice. One important thing as a manager is understanding what you can do to get the best results for your money. Do you manage in a programed way where you have it laid out step by step or do you let them use their minds make them think. It’s a tuff decision to make. Following WWII, the United States enter a time that would be called the Baby Boom. From 1946 to 1964 over 76 million babies were born in the United States. At the time babies made up around 40 percent of the American population. This changed the United States in a major way. Most historians believe that many families had babies because they were final out the Great Depression and can final afford to take care of it.
American Identity Our world has seen many events that have shaped our country today. From wars in Iraq, to WW1 and WW2, to ISIS bombings. People have their own opinion on what they think shaped this country, but I believe it is the attacks on our beloved country. These attacks are what has shaped our country how it is today.
Baby boomers are a great generation from 1940 to 1950 and there are millions of them. Almost exactly nine months after World War II ended, “the cry of the baby was heard across the land,” and that’s exactly what everyone did. Over 76 million kids were born during this period, making it the fastest population growth ever. That generation also makes up over 40% of the US population, which at this time are still the largest generation. The baby boomers have had a major effect on the whole nation.
The Millennials As time passes each generation has its mark on the world, and things change. Every generation has its nickname, for those who are 46 to 64 are called Baby Boomers, 30 to 45 are Generation X, and finally 18 to about 29 are the Millennials. Each generation has left its mark on the world and since the Baby Boomers fashion, cars, and communication has all evolved and grown. The Millennials have impacted the world with their internet use and how they share everything.
In the essay, “The Beat Up Generation”, by Abby Ellin (2014), within several discussions she explores and discusses the division and differences among generations that differ by age group starting with the baby boomers to the GenXers leading up to the generation today, the millennials. She uses factual evidence, examples, studies, and stereotypes to show how millennials are highly criticized by the older generations although they are better to adapt and needed in the changing world. The purpose of the essay is to point out these differences and criticism amongst the generations, how predecessor generations misunderstand the millennial generation. The intended audience refers to any individual that falls into the each generation.
“The Beat (Up) Generation: Millennials’ Attitudes about Work” is an article written by Abby Ellin and published in Psychology Today. It talks about the generation born between 1982 and 2004, how they react to working around the older generation and why they are hated by the older generation. The millennial generation was born during the rise of technology. They can do a lot of work remotely and not have to work as hard because of all the technology they have access to and the boomer generation doesn’t understand it they equate working hard with time and physical work. The boomers feel that millennials are just lazy and have no respect.

Couples married young and could now afford to start a family and care for their children. The baby boom also increased consumption due to the need to accommodate to the high demand of goods. Diapers alone were a $50 million business by 1957 due to the large amount of babies that needed the accessory. It also began the creation of a “youth culture”, separating parent and children. The children of this generation were more high-strung and knew that they had the potential to be more successful than their parents.

Soon after WW2, between 1945-1964 the US’s once steady population growth started BOOMING! With the birthrate hitting its peak in 1957, more than 4.3 million babies had been born by the end of the 1950s. The infants born in this time frame was known as the “baby boomers”.

The children all needed supplies like food, schooling and automobiles, and their parents were the ones to pay for it. “The young were given a fixed income to throw away their money on music and toys” (Generation Ageless) . The children consumed whatever was marketed towards them, all with their parents money. Major industries noticed this and created new products to market towards them, such as fashion, hair styles and music, the generation was “responsible for advanced marketing tactics and fads” (Born at the Right Time) . The generation was the first to have television, watching an of “average of 6-7 hours a day” (wikipedia.com), marketers had all new platforms to sell their products.
