The school name to be Abraham Lincoln High school. It should be this because he was one of the most influential men in history, because he freed the slaves, and won the Civil War. I think the mascot should be a Bald Eagle, because it is a symbol of American freedom and democracy. It is a symbol of hope and freedom to the whole world. I think names and mascots are important to the students because it is a unifying thing they can all rally behind at ballgames and when they interact with other schools. It is important to the people of the city because it is something they can take pride in so they don’t want it to be a ridiculous name. Two goals I think the new principal should pursue are as following. The first is to hire good teachers who know
It never came in to fruition when they kicked everyone out ,and bulldozed the area for a Dogers baseball stadium. Eric Avila a professer at the California univeristy states that Changing the name would eradicate the memory of the old community. While others like City Councilman Reyes says that it would be a positive change by naming it after the stadium that donates to charities, and some of the area surrounding
Following the name change also came creating a theme including uniforms, logo and choosing a stadium. It came to no difficulty for Modell to follow the theme he had chosen for the team since the beginning than to completely submerge the originality to the poem “The Raven.” That included the team colors purple, black and white and, mascots Edgar, Allan, Poe, Rise and
The choice Does Aphrodite fit the match of a mascot? Red Hill Lutheran School needs a new mascot. Who will it be? Aphrodite would be the best mascot. She should be the mascot because she is loving, kind, and beautiful.
The Rogerian Method was created to mediate the two opposing sides of an argument into an agreeable solution. Jane Willy used the method to settle the dispute over the usage of American Indian tribes as mascots. Although she makes a solid resolution, Willy fails to correctly write all parts of the Rogerian Method which are essential to keep the pacifist approach that comes with this method. The opposition to Jane insists that using American Indians as mascots is slanderous to their people. Jane Willy thinks that it is okay to use American Indians as mascots, so long as it is with good intentions.
In Council Bluffs Community School District there are 15 schools. Those schools are named after explorers, Founding Fathers, presidents, A poet, Inventors, and former principal for the district. Thomas Jefferson High School was founded in 1922. After 100 years, people are questioning the wisdom of sending students of varied cultures to a school named after a slave owner. My belief is that Council Bluffs should have a school named after Thomas Jefferson.
Mascots are entertaining animals or historical figures to represent a sports team or a school. However, what is considered fun to others may be harmful to many more. Most Native American tribes do not like schools and teams to use their name as a mascot. There have been many discussions lately whether to ban the use of the names relating to American Indians. Native Amerian mascots should be banned.
The past times have been revolutionary and epic, so at the least, sports organizations with these mascots should be allowed to keep them as a way to show the respect Natives truly deserve. For example, the team with the largest controversy in today’s football world is the Washington Redskins. The owner of the organization and the team itself has fought time and time again to keep the unique, yet meaningful name that they have had since the year 1937. In an interview done by Travis Waldron, a businessman who owns the majority of the Washington Redskins, Daniel Snyder adds, “We’ll never change the name,” (qtd. in Waldron). Another team battling to maintain their mascot is Florida State University.
These are all teams that have stereotypes. If a team name, mascot, or insignia is offensive, then just change it; it is just a sports team. Even if a team changes it, it is not like every jock, or sports fan is not going to know theyour new name, mascot, or insignia. Using Native American images and names in professional, collegiate, and high school sports teams do reinforce and perpetuate stereotypes because the mascots and team names give stereotypical features. These stereotypes are mainly coming from mascots.
There has been a great controversy over whether or not schools and teams keep their Mascots that portray images of Native Americans. Articles in newspapers, websites, and magazines discussing the topic are provided to the public. There is even a press release from the supreme court where they have addressed such issue. Schools, teams, and Native Americans have viewed these documents and taken their own stand on the issue. I am going to decide whether or not cities/teams should get rid of their Native American mascots/nicknames.
December the 6th, 1865 marks the end of slavery and white supremacy. A glance at the 21st century America manifests otherwise. Racism is an ongoing issue that contributes largely to class boundaries within significant aspects such as economy, education and society of the United States, making people of color inferior to white people. The key components that construct a country into greatness are economy, education and society. The inequality and injustice present in these interlinked components, bound by social class hierarchy, can lead to desisting the full potential to be a globally respectable nation.
Over the past few years, the controversy over sports names or mascots has increasingly become an uproar. The main sports teams being targeted due to controversial mascots are programs having names that deal with Native Americans. Well known programs, such as, the Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, and the Washington Redskins are just a few of the many teams being targeted due to controversial team names and/or mascots. Currently, the Redskins are receiving the most heat from racial groups. However, professional sport teams are not the only teams receiving negative remarks; there are well known colleges that are also receiving huge blows for racial symbols.
The act of racial discrimination impacts innocent people's lives in numerous, negative ways; hence why multiple people, worldwide can not tolerate racism and discrimination. The novel written by Sue Monk Kidd, The Secret Life of Bees, displays a wide range of scenarios where racism results in suffering. It centers around the life of a young, black man named Bigger Thomas. The story is composed of crimes committed by Bigger and the motives behind them. His motives are influenced by his thoughts, which result from the social pressure he experiences as an African American.
If you can take a moment to think to yourself, how many times have you been treated differently just because of your race? Maybe not at all, or maybe a lot. Understanding systematic racism may help you understand why. Systematic racism affects people’s lives greatly or just a little. If you want to learn about what Jim Crow started systematic racism and what it is, then read this essay.
Conan the Destroyer is a film that points viewers in the direction of Robert E. Howard’s indefinite series of Conan adventures. This film was created to be a more humorous version of Robert E. Howard’s Conan series. Although the film was portrayed as being silly and humorous it did gain a better view on racism. However, it cannot be said that Robert E. Howard’s original Conan stories were devoid of racism and sexism, but in the movie equality of the races was as little a question as equality of the sexes was. In Conan the Destroyer the racism was reduced do to the awareness of racism and how that would affect the viewership of the movie.
