BACKGROUND INFORMATION OF BARCLAYS BANK Barclays bank is Botswana’s leading commercial bank. It has 43 branches and 115 automatic teller machines throughtout the country. Euromoney and EMEA finance have voted Barclays bank the best in Botswana for more than 3 years in a row. Barclays bank of Botswana is a subsidiary of Barclays bank plc .Barclays bank PLC commenced operations in Botswana in 1950 with first branch in Lobatse. Barclays bank then expanded their network until 1975 when Barclays became an incorporated company in Botswana. In 1986 , ordinary shares in the bank were issued to employees of the bank , Botswana citizens and locally incorporated corporate bobies. Until 1986, it operated as an autonomous, owned by subsidiary of Barclays bank PLC and was managed from its head office in Gaborone .
