Baseball is a very popular sport in America although there is very much controversy on whether it is fading away or still thriving strong in America. Baseball has been around since 1839. The sport has evolved very much over the past 178 years. The game has always been thought to be “Americas Pastime” but in modern society some people believe that may not be the case.

When I play baseball with my friends I have lots of fun, but imagine what it would be like to play on a professional team. My parents dream for me is to be successful and happy, but I have had an interest in baseball since I was four years old. I remember waking up ready to go play a tournament in the fresh summer air. When I watch the games on T.V, Mike Trout always stood out to me. To be a professional just like him, I would have to work as hard as him to get to the pros. Baseball has taught me things about life, and everytime I step on the field, I have a good time.

At the age of 5, I aspired to either become a professional athlete or an ESPN anchor. Ever since I could remember, I would kick a soccer ball around, dribble a basketball, or throw a baseball around with friends and family. I used to be the league champion and MVP of the team every season, but as time progressed, other competitors would rocket past in height and become the best players because of their size advantage. Although other young athletes became stronger and taller than me, it did not change the passion and commitment I had for sports.

Hank Aaron was known as an American Hero on and off of the baseball field. With his unique qualities, he excelled in life. He was labeled a quiet man who loved to play baseball, but he was also a black man and whites didn’t want him on “their” field (Wheeler, 1991). He was stubborn in a heroic way; he refused to leave the deep south when everyone wanted him gone, and he proved everyone wrong about what he was truly capable of (Nightengale, 2013). He broke Babe Ruth’s record for a total of 755 home runs when everyone disliked him, and he played through the hardest times in his life (Christensen). This is about a man who was a true American Hero that never gave up.

To myself baseball is the greatest game that’s ever been played. A player must have extreme abilities to be able to have a chance to play on one of the thirty teams in professional baseball. Players get rewarded with a lot of money in a multi-year contract when they prove that they are better than most. When a player is noted as one of the best to ever play the game, that is when they will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame is the ultimate goal for any player that has played in the professionals or any player that will play in the professionals. The players that get inducted are the ones that get remembered forever. My argument, Pete Rose should be allowed induction into the Hall of Fame.

He also was the first African American to join the Baseball Hall of Fame. I believe he said this because he was derided for what he was doing, but he was not going to stop. The quote relates to my struggles backpacking 90 miles in New Mexico. Even though it may of been the most difficult thing I have done, I did not give up. I endured the challenge and achieved a level of success I had only dreamed of.

A never-ending story, where every game is a new nine inning chapter and every player has the chance to be a hero.

I believe in baseball. Baseball allows many people to enter the doors of competition through recreation with others. My first year of baseball I didn’t have a care in the world, I would run with my head up so my helmet would fall off and I would kick up dust into the fielder’s face. Now I play with burning ambition and act like there isn’t any other place in the world i’d rather be when I am on the field. This impressive game has changed my life.
