Baseball is a very popular sport in America although there is very much controversy on whether it is fading away or still thriving strong in America. Baseball has been around since 1839. The sport has evolved very much over the past 178 years. The game has always been thought to be “Americas Pastime” but in modern society some people believe that may not be the case.
When I play baseball with my friends I have lots of fun, but imagine what it would be like to play on a professional team. My parents dream for me is to be successful and happy, but I have had an interest in baseball since I was four years old. I remember waking up ready to go play a tournament in the fresh summer air. When I watch the games on T.V, Mike Trout always stood out to me. To be a professional just like him, I would have to work as hard as him to get to the pros. Baseball has taught me things about life, and everytime I step on the field, I have a good time.
“I’m not concerned with your liking or disliking me… All I ask is that you respect me as a human being.” This quote by Jackie Robinson accurately describes the style in which he lived his life, not only as a baseball player but as a person also. This man used his talents in order to bring about change that would forever revolutionize baseball and sports in general. Jackie Robinson was one of the most influential social and racial leaders of his time.

George Herman ''Babe'' Ruth Jr. Was a professional baseball player whose career in major league baseball spanned 22 seasons, from 1914 through 1935. Babe played his first major league game on July 11, 1914. Babe Ruth was an outstanding baseball player. One of his sayings were ''I swing with everything I got, I hit big and I miss big. I like to live as big as I can- Babe Ruth. Babe Ruth is without a doubt the most famous character ever produced by the sport of baseball. A legendary world famous for his hitting prowless he transcended the sport to enter the mainstream of American life as an authentic folk hero. It was while with the Orioles, a veteran team populated by numerous former major leaguers, that Ruth was given his famous nickname.
The Roaring 20’s brought many great changes to America. New technology, economic boom, and cultural change strived. George Herman “Babe” Ruth Jr., an American baseball player, was one of eight children born to a saloon keeper. He was taught at St. Mary’s Industrial School for Boys, where his love and passion for the game, began. Little did anyone know, soon, America would be home to the legend of baseball.
The quote, “ Everyday is a new opportunity. You can either build on yesterday’s success or put its failures behind and start over again. That is the way life is, with a new game everyday, and that is the way baseball is.” - Bob Feller. That quote has irony on how to be successful, likewise that baseball has helped me become successful. Baseball has taught me many things about life such as how to have a good work ethic, how to accept failure and success, and has helped teach me to keep going when times get tough. Those are a few ways that baseball has helped me be successful.
Baseball is one of the most well-known sports to the American people and has a major impact on our culture. Baseball brings friends and family together for great times, and competitiveness. Who would have thought that one man made baseball what is today, and that man is Jackie Robinson. Jackie Robinson was the first African American to play in the major leagues and at the time, it shocked America because there were still some segregation issues going on at the time. Jackie Robinson had one goal, and that was to show America that African Americans can play the game of baseball just as good and that they should not be judged by the color of their skin. He stood up for what he believed in even though he knew the risk and the problems that may
Baseball, America’s favorite past time! Baseball has been around forever and some people do not understand how tough the sport is. First I will explain how hitting a baseball is the toughest thing to do in sports. Then I will explain how tough it is to play in the field. Then I will explain how tough it is to be drafted and after that even play. Although some people think baseball is easy. Baseball is the toughest sport.
At the age of 5, I aspired to either become a professional athlete or an ESPN anchor. Ever since I could remember, I would kick a soccer ball around, dribble a basketball, or throw a baseball around with friends and family. I used to be the league champion and MVP of the team every season, but as time progressed, other competitors would rocket past in height and become the best players because of their size advantage. Although other young athletes became stronger and taller than me, it did not change the passion and commitment I had for sports.
Hank Aaron was known as an American Hero on and off of the baseball field. With his unique qualities, he excelled in life. He was labeled a quiet man who loved to play baseball, but he was also a black man and whites didn’t want him on “their” field (Wheeler, 1991). He was stubborn in a heroic way; he refused to leave the deep south when everyone wanted him gone, and he proved everyone wrong about what he was truly capable of (Nightengale, 2013). He broke Babe Ruth’s record for a total of 755 home runs when everyone disliked him, and he played through the hardest times in his life (Christensen). This is about a man who was a true American Hero that never gave up.
To myself baseball is the greatest game that’s ever been played. A player must have extreme abilities to be able to have a chance to play on one of the thirty teams in professional baseball. Players get rewarded with a lot of money in a multi-year contract when they prove that they are better than most. When a player is noted as one of the best to ever play the game, that is when they will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame is the ultimate goal for any player that has played in the professionals or any player that will play in the professionals. The players that get inducted are the ones that get remembered forever. My argument, Pete Rose should be allowed induction into the Hall of Fame.
“This ain't fun. But you watch me, I'll get it done.” This is quote was stated by Jackie Robinson. Jackie Robinson was the first African American Major League Baseball player. He also was the first African American to join the Baseball Hall of Fame. I believe he said this because he was derided for what he was doing, but he was not going to stop. The quote relates to my struggles backpacking 90 miles in New Mexico. Even though it may of been the most difficult thing I have done, I did not give up. I endured the challenge and achieved a level of success I had only dreamed of.
Baseball has always been more than just a game. As John S. Bowman and Joel Zoss stated in The Pictorial History of Baseball “As part of the fabric of American culture, baseball is the common social ground between strangers, a world of possibility and chance, where ‘it’s never over till it’s over.’” It’s an American rich tradition in legends, folklore, and history. A never-ending story, where every game is a new nine inning chapter and every player has the chance to be a hero.
I believe in baseball. Baseball allows many people to enter the doors of competition through recreation with others. My first year of baseball I didn’t have a care in the world, I would run with my head up so my helmet would fall off and I would kick up dust into the fielder’s face. Now I play with burning ambition and act like there isn’t any other place in the world i’d rather be when I am on the field. This impressive game has changed my life.
