K-12 Basic Education Curriculum K to 12 means a standardized Kindergarten, 6 years in elementary as the primary education (Grade 1 to 6),and 4 years in junior high school and 2 years in senior high school as the secondary education. The K to 12 Curriculum aims for holistic development and acquisition of 21st century skills. The reform includes decongesting and enhancing the basic education curriculum for learners to master basic competencies by lengthening the cycle of basic education. The curriculum also prepares the students with life skills that they earn while schooling. This enable the students to have Certificate of Competency (COCs) and National Certificate (NCs) issued by the Technical Skill Development Authority (TESDA) for tech-voc proficiency. Aside from it, students may also receive recognitions from the National Center for Culture and Arts (NCCA) and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) for sports and arts related tracks. In addition, K to 12 Education Program addresses the shortcomings in our education system. The program is decongested because it focuses on understanding for mastery and has removed the unnecessarily repeated competencies. It is also seamless because it ensures the smooth transition between grade levels and continuum competencies through spiral progression. It is also relevant and responsive and it should be developmentally appropriate and focuses on succeeding in the 21st century. It develops the competencies of the learners
