Jean Louise Finch ‘Scout’ is a headstrong young girl who narrates the novel ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’, set in the fictitious County Maycomb over the span of three years. She is often found sporting dirty overalls or breeches and possesses a rather tomboyish personality, much to her aunt’s dismay. It says, “Aunt Alexandra was fanatical on the subject of my attire... When I said I could do nothing in a dress, she said I wasn’t supposed to be doing things that required pants.”(Page 90)

In the novel The Running Man by Michael Gerard Bauer, the author captures the experiences of a marginalised character, Tom Leyton. The use of the silkworm metaphor invites the audience to uncover the dark secrets of Tom Leyton 's mysterious past. The introduction of the character Joseph Davidson provides the author with a catalyst to open the metaphor of the silkworm and take the reader on a journey to understand the life experiences of Tom Leyton. Joseph Davidson, who is portrayed as someone with poor self esteem is also described as an outsider. The running man is used by the author to reveal the experiences of Joseph Davidson and demonstrate his growth of becoming less marginalised throughout the novel. By creating characters in the novel who are excluded and labelled the author demonstrates how cruel society can be to people. The purpose of this essay is to show how the author reveals the experiences of marginalised characters in society.

Fruitvale Station is based on a true story that occurred in Oakland, California in 2009. Oscar Grant III was unarmed and lying face down on a subway platform. He was shot by a white Bay Area Rapid Transit Police Officer. This movie is about what we can imagine when we cast our gaze across the longstanding divides in this segregated American society. Oscar Grant was a real 22 - year old man. The first thing we see in “Fruitvale” is the fatal moment that led to Oscar’s death. Camera phone footage of the Bay Area Rapid Transit cops beating Oscar and his friends on a subway platform that ends with a gunshot.

The character I like best in this movie, Dances With Wolves, is John Dunbar. The three characteristics that made me like and respect him is that he is never gives up, is kind-hearted, and is willing to understand or understandable. This film shows a lot of characteristics to all the characters in this movie but never giving up is what I saw in John Dunbar at first hand.

Ship-Trap Island is like the nightmare you will never wake up from. In the book “The Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, a hunter named Rainsford was sailing in the sea to go hunt in the Amazon when suddenly he falls off of his yacht due to strong waves late at night. He ends up at this mysterious island the next morning where a general named Zaroff finds him. At first, Zaroff seems friendly but later on he puts Rainsford through a challenge where Zaroff is hunting Rainsford down for three days and if Rainsford wins, he survives. If the general wins, Rainsford will be killed. General Zaroff used to hunt animals as a sport, but now he hunts people. Rainsford will never hunt again after having to go through the dangerous game and being frightened

“Oh Brother Where Art Thou”, released October 19th 2000 is a Crime/Adventure film filled with some action and lots of song. The adventure in the film is led by Ulysses Everett McGill, a man of many words and some excellent hair. He goes through many rough and tough situations in order to find the “treasure” he seeks throughout the movie. Separated from his wife because he has little funds, him and his friends Pete Hogwallop, Tommy Johnson, and Delmar O'Donnel find money in the music industry as the “Soggy Bottom Boys” creating hits during their adventures. Everett uses his words and wit in order to get through anything he can. Overall him and his friends meet many new people and come across many problems, but Everett solves most through his many interesting traits and qualities.

When Scout complains about Miss Caroline, Atticus states, “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view . . . until you climb into his skin and walk around in it” (Lee 33). Atticus Finch says empathy is based on sympathy, on being able to see another person 's point of view and comprehend why they act the way they do even if it 's hard to agree with it. He is allocating fatherly advice to Scout by telling her that Miss Caroline was probably just trying to do her best in a new environment. This piece of advice supports Scouts development throughout the novel by making her not as agile to judge. Although Atticus is crucial to his children 's growth, he can’t give a “feminine” input which sometimes flaws his parenting, but Lee proves that good parenting requires a person to do the right thing, no matter the circumstances through fairness, perspective, and integrity.

“Now that's how you drink a really cold coke.” (Okay for Now page 29) Many quotes from Lil Spicer, Doug's best friend, continue to inspire and teach many things to lots of people. This quote, from Okay for Now wrought by Gary Schmidt, represents that relationships can start at any time over many things. According to the book, many times relationships with people help Doug and many other characters. Some of the important relationships in Okay for Now between Lil and Doug, Doug and the Daugherty, and Mr. Ballard and Doug. Relationships, very important because friends help other people through rough times, encourage them to try new things, and for that person to believe in themselves.

Although he did not receive any education exceeding the third grade, he wished to further his knowledge and eventually developed a deep love for literary art as well as music.

The social growth of two protagonists was displayed in both Beasts of No Nation by Uzodinma Iweala and Boys Without Names by Kashmira Sheth. Agu, who was introduced in the novel Beasts of No Nation as an innocent, young boy, eventually turned into a ‘beast’ because of several influential factors. Like Agu, the protagonist in Boys Without Names by Kashmira Sheth, Gopal, underwent a similar transformation as the plot progressed. Gopal’s change, however, affected his perception on others and the amount of trust he allows for others.

John Nash is the subject of the film “A Beautiful Mind.” At the beginning, it was portrayed that he arrives at Princeton soon after the end of the Second World War. As soon as he attended the lecture, his professor said "Mathematicians won the war. Mathematicians broke the Japanese codes and built the A-bomb. Mathematicians like you." Nash felt denigrated with the statement thrown by his professor. Though he was offered a single room in his college, his roommate, Charles, a literature student, greets him as he moves in and soon becomes his best friend.
