Basketball is mostly recognized as a male dominated sport. The National Basketball Association or NBA, is the leading facet in the sport, basketball. Although the Women 's National Basketball Association or WNBA is equally as important as the NBA, the NBA is more popular. This may be because the WNBA lacks the excitement of dunking and fast tempo gameplay that usually occurs in NBA games. Players such as, Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, and Steph Curry are publicized over players such as, Brittney Griner and Skylar Diggins. This is also due to the attention being focused on the NBA over the WNBA. Skylar Diggins is one of the star players in the WNBA. As a freshman of Baylor University, Brittney became the second college female ever to dunk twice in the same game. In her senior year of college, Brittney led her team to victory in the NCAA Tournament while setting a career record of 736 career blocked shots. Brittney later became the number one draft pick overall in the WNBA draft. All the teams wanted Brittney Griner but the team that ended up picking her was the Phoenix Mercury. Now, in her second year as a professional basketball player, Brittney has scored a career high of twenty-eight points in a game, an average eighteen rebounds, and eleven blocks in her career. On the contrary, there are quite a few similarities between the two players. Both Skylar Diggins and Brittney Griner were the star players in college. While in college, the girls played against each other, Brittney’s team went undefeated that year but Skylar’s team was very close. Another similarity is, both of the girls have won an Espy and Naismith Award for their talent and both play in the WNBA. One of the biggest similarity Skylar and Brittany have is the WNBA draft.
