It was the second week of school during my senior year in high school. I was playing one of the Don’t Touch the Tile knockoffs, trying to beat my high score waiting for the weight training teacher to show up. As always I would continue to play, waiting for him to say the magic words “Basketballs are out”. He sat at his desk, taking longer than usual to tell the class the magic words. He stood up, while telling the class to take out a sheet of paper. This had to be something serious as this never happens. He would continue to tell the class a long speech about what exactly are goals. The main message of the speech was to always write your goals down no matter how big, such as your college experience, and small, such as remembering to take the trash out on the weekends. He would eventually tell the class to list our goals down. While I want to say that moment changed my life, I can’t as I allowed the idea of playing basketball of 30 minutes overwhelmed my perspective of my life in the future. My list of goals was lackluster. Now, I wish I took this moment more importantly. …show more content…
God works in mysterious ways, as it wasn’t til when I was presented with This topic question of the Gates Millennium that I was struggling on what my goals are. Searching throughout the internet, I eventually realized that I had to listed my goals down. While listing these goals, I became baffled at the the length of the list, which consisted of a total of 8 goals. Eventually I had to sit back and realize what my teacher had told the class early in the school year about what goals
“Why can’t we get into our freaking offense!?” This is all I really remember from Coach McKendrick at halftime last year against Niles North in what was a tough night for our basketball team. Prior to this, we beat New Trier at home and then went on the road and beat the pre-season unanimous vote to win conference, Highland Park, in our first conference game. Before the New Trier game, our game plan was simple: we were smaller, but faster, so we were going to run the court and make this is a fast pace game. We executed our gameplan, and we won.
Those that oppose the Warriors team and that are in favor of the Bulls team have a use many of the same techniques but use different approaches to reach the audiences emotional side such as aiming to attract an older audience. Those against the Warriors, like those supporting the Warriors, use a logos heavy argument and support there claims through the use of statistics that include streaks made and records broken. They prove their credibility on the topic through logos and establishing strong tone. Many believe that the facts presented by the writers is a sufficient way to establish credibility but that’s only one small way to achieve this as we see from Travis Reed’s article. Reed makes sure that the audience knows his expertise on the
Ken Butler, the author of “The NBA Opens its Doors to a Virtual Basketball League” uses the rhetorical devices of ethos and logos. He uses his writing to make his point about how eSports should be considered as sports and treated that way to his audience of fans of sports. Altogether, Butler was effective at reaching his audience with his intended message. In the middle section of the article, Butler uses ethos to help support his point.
You have goals set of all of us to become something important. To make a change to the world.
When I first signed up for sports communications the last thing I thought I’d be doing was not only meeting people like Mike Breen, Jim O’Connell, Steven Sheer, and Joe Yanarell, but speaking to them on a first hand basis and getting to know about their line of work. Each and every speaker not only told us about their line of work but told us about their stories on how they got to where they are and why try fell in love with what they do along the way. The three speakers that stood out to me the most were Mike Breen, Jim O’Connell, and Steven Sheer, but I would like to quote Joe Yanarell on a couple statements that seem to fit into each and every one of these men’s stories. First off, Mr. Yanarell said “you are going to fail and learn from it.” This quote goes a long way
I am sure that I will have many of these goals and I am determined that I will have enough grit to finish them. Another thing that we talked about in Learn Strong was crucial conversations. When I think of crucial conversations I think about a crucial decision that needs to be made that can affect the lives of many. Personally I can’t think of a crucial conversation that I had this semester.
Landin Brezinka Ms. Sauer English 8 1 February 2023 Life Lessons One life lesson is not to wait to do the things you are asked to do. If your parents ask you to take the garbage out, take the trash out. If your teacher gives you an assignment that’s due, do it. Not doing the things your asked can cause an area of hate, anger, or even the disability of not being able to do anything, like sports or activities. I think he would buy a basketball because he is interested in basketball as I mentioned before about his unrealistic dream about being a NBA player. I chose this specific basketball because it is a street basketball. The importance that it is a street basketball is that in his book he described the courts as a meeting ground for people everyone would just come and play. I also noted he said everyone would not really play by the rules and things got
I feel as though these goals can be easily achieved if I apply myself and ask for
The pain and agony due to the fact that I might not be prepared for college class was on my shoulders. Since day one of highschool, my biggest desire throughout school was to be engaged in learning while being well prepared for the next step in life: college. What class was the answer to this class desired? It was in a meeting with my guidance counselor in eighth grade that struck me and sparked the interest in my heart to do well. All of my highschool career I have never known what it actually meant to do well and be ¨successful.¨
I may not have the aspiration to go to such extremes as Macbeth has to accomplish my goals, but I will surely accept a challenge. My most significant goals in life are to in the future travel the world seeking to aid those in need located poverty stricken countries, become a wholehearted police officer, and last but not least to create a foundation to fund a cause. When it comes to setting a goal, the people who succeed are those who set realistic, specific goals. Personally I believe that the goals I have set are extremely significant and give me something to look forward to once the time is right. My goals to travel the world and aid those in need who are located in poverty stricken countries is the one I personally am most looking forward to achieving the most.
When we set off for our meet my sophomore year I had no idea the day would be as great as it was. as we arrived to the meet the air was brisk and sent a chill down your spine like a good horror movie, yet it was a beautiful late fall day. Prairie valley had just finished building their new weight room and when we walked in you could feel the smooth concrete beneath your feet, you could see the new bright chrome barbells in their homes on a bench or in a squat rack. The smell of chalk was floating throughout the room like a fresh baked pie at grandmas, but this was only the beginning to a great day. The other teams had checked in and we were up, not one of the other teams had as solid a lifter in some class as we had so we were very confident in getting a fairly good team score.
Air ball— again. My form was lost, coordination gone, and so was my patience. I’ve stopped playing basketball for 3 months mainly because of school work and things going on in my life. I was determined to get my skills back no matter how long it’ll take. I started a game of basketball with other people inside the gyms court.
Recognize that students, particularly adult students, have other life events occurring during the course.” As an adult learner who completed my graduate degree while working full time and raising teenagers, I benefit from the long-term effects of “positive teaching prompt positive learning”. With the personal problems I already had going on in my life, I was in no mood to tour a college. However, when I arrived there, everything changed. As I observed students with disadvantaged backgrounds that differed from one another, I saw how they got here despite the struggles they went through. I wondered why, what did they have that I did not? Then it hit me; I never had a goal that I set for myself.
