The confederates surprised the union soldiers which resulted in a confederate win. There were many other battles, however there is one that really stands out. The most known battle, and the deadliest battle, Gettysburg. The battle at Gettysburg resulted with by far the most deaths. With over 50,000 casualties, this battle would be remembered by all.
The Siege of Yorktown The Siege of Yorktown can also be identified as The Surrender at Yorktown, The German Battle, or The Battle of Yorktown. This battle was the last battle of the revolutionary war, but did not mark the end of it. This battle greatly affected the outcome of the revolutionary war.
As soon as the first shots were fired at the Battle of Lexington and Concord were fired, the American Revolution was inescapable. Tensions between the colonists and the British were constantly on the rise, with the colonists basically looking for an excuse to go to war. They had long been protesting taxation without representation, for example, dumping tea into the Boston harbor after an the Tea Act was passed. This only led to an increased British military presence in the colonies, such as King George III’s closing of the Boston harbor until the colonists paid for the tea. As a result of the constant discord between the colonists and the British government, the patriots only felt a stronger need to fight for their rights.
Second, they continued to place heavy taxes on the colonists and would pass laws such as the Stamp Act, the Townshend Tariffs, and the Tea Act to increase the taxes for the colonists. The colonists, of course, were very upset by this and felt that they were being treated unfair. This resulted in major conflict between the British supporters, which were called “loyalists,” and the colonists that protested against the British, that were known as the “patriots.” Other important and disastrous events soon followed with all of the taxation such as, the Boston Massacre
Britain had invested a lot of money into the war, so therefore their war cost was remarkably high (National Park Service), so they tried to raise their Tax revenue considerably high un-noticed. Without a representative, the Colonists in, what we now know as America, realized this change. They began to protest against the high taxes, and their famous quote was “No Taxation without Representation!” (A&E Networks) Because they were being taxed, without any consent of representatives.
People depict the American Revolution in terms of Patriots and Loyalists – those who supported the rebellion, patriots, and those who supported the British government, loyalists. Brittan has robbed us clean of our food, money, houses, and our rights, even after we helped them defeat the French in the war. I believe we should rebel against Brittan and fight for our rights, independence, and freedom. Parliament keeps enforcing taxes and restrictions, they killed our brethren in the Boston massacre, and conjured up a war. Assertion 1: First, Brittan keeps piling taxes and restrictions, one after the other, such as The Stamp act, The Quartering act, and The Proclamation of 1763.
For instance when colonist boycotted and protested then Parliament repealed the stamp act. The British had placed almost a direct tax on the colonies and so they fired back. Then their was the Boston tea party, colonist were protesting and ended up throwing 342 barrels of tea into Boston harbor. That made Britain very angry but unfortunately they did not repeal the act, because parliament wanted to keep the act to remind the colonies that they still had a right to tax them. There was also the Townshend acts which lead up to the Boston massacre.
With over 620,000 deaths, the American Civil War was definitely one of the bloodiest wars in history. The battles between the Union and the Confederate troops raged on from 1861 to 1865 and ruined the lives and families of countless people. There were prison camps that tormented their prisoners, animals that were used until death, and diseases that ran rampant throughout the soldiers’ barracks. An average of 504 people died every day due to battle, which is actually a record (Civil War by the Numbers). Countless problems were faced by almost everyone that was a part of the battles, and by those who were only affected in second-hand ways.
The American Revolution lasted from 1765 to 1783. This war was fought between the British and American Colonists due to the colonist’s desire to separate from the British. The devastating war was brutally bloody for both the Colonists and the British. The American Colonists were able to defeat the militarily stronger British by utilizing the hatred between the British and the French, having a stronger general, and using their knowledge of their homeland to fight against the British. First of all, the colonists were smart enough to use the animosity between the British and French for their own benefit.
First of all, Andrew Jackson has killed people in many duels that he has been in. It is said that he has been in a total of 103 duels defending the integrity of his wife (teachingamericanhistory.org). Also it is said that he carried 37 pistols with him ready to use in the duels he has been in. Putting this in another way, it is saying that he has killed many people in his early life. If he were to still due this in his presidency life he would be such a bad president to the country.
The colonies have been part of the British crown for 168 years now, but independence is something that America needs. The British had created high taxes with unreasonable causes since they just went to war with the French and Indians in American territory, but colonists should not comply the King’s whims no more. American colonists demand independence since freedom is limited by Britain; for this reason, colonists are thinking about how to obtain it.. The British have planted a seed of hatred in the American colonists thanks to the treatment they have given; consequently, colonists are seeking revenge with the British. Due to the fact that the British have mistreated the Americans, the majority of the American colonists may agree with Patrick Henry and are willing to risk their lives for the freedom that Americans deserve.
The French Indian War proved to be the starting point of the American Revolution. During this war Britain neglected the colonies, leading to their growth in military and gained self confidence. Seeing America 's growth and independence, Britain called on the colonies for help, resulting in the backlash that started it all. When Britain imposed policies and taxes on unrepresented American colonists, the tension started to rise.
“Subsequent diplomatic failures to resolve the Maine matter, coupled with United States indignation over Spain’s brutal suppression of the Cuban rebellion and continued losses to American investment, led to the outbreak of the Spanish-American War in April 1898” (History 1). They were justified in doing this because many people were killed, it caused problems not just with them, but with families and it affected the country. “…killing 260 of the fewer than 400 American crew members aboard” (History 1). This took away opportunity for 260
There are numerous similarities and differences between the American Revolutionary War and The American Civil War. Both wars were waged in the name of unity, the Revolutionary War was to bring together the colonies of America and the Civil war was to bring together and preserve the Union. In both wars Americans did fight other Americans, in the Revolutionary War those who supported the American way fought against those who who supported the crown along side of the British. In the Civil War the North fought the South. Both wars were relatively short, both lasting less than ten years each; and the outcome of both wars was the unity of the nation.
The Civil War was a battle of great importance to our history of the United States. On April 12th, 1861 this battle broke out between the Union States, North, and the Confederate States, such as the South. The Civil War took place all throughout the United states, and did not come to an end until the Union won the war on May 9, 1856. So, our question of “What caused the Civil War”, comes with three important answers. The three main causes of the Civil War between the North and the South were Economic, Social, and Political differences.
