Because of Winn-Dixie
Final Summary This story is mostly about Opal, a ten year old girl who wants friends and her mom to come back. But later she learns that if you really love something let it go.
It all started when Opal went to the grocery store, saw and dog and decided to rescue him. He was a stinky, ugly dog but Opal couldn’t stand the fact that he would have to go to the pound so she said that the dog was hers. Then, Opal brings the dog, she names Winn-Dixie home to see what her father, or “the preacher” has to say about him. Since the preacher is a preacher he always helps the less fortunate so Opal said that Winn-Dixie was a less fortunate so she would get to keep him and she did. Winn-Dixie helps Opal with some of her problems since she just moved to Naomi, Florida.
Throughout the summer, Opal and Winn-Dixie were making new friends. First they met Ms. Franny Block, the librarian at the Herman W. Block Memorial Library. They met Ms. Franny when she thought Winn-Dixie, who was leaning on the window was a bear! then Opal and Winn-Dixie go to Gertrude's

That’s my favorite part because that is when they first introduce Winn-Dixie and Winn-Dixie is an important character in the story. I think Opal is the most important character because she is one of the main characters and the story would be a lot different without her. I think the most important scene is when Opal goes out looking for Winn-Dixie because that is when Opal learns an important lesson: if you love something and it wants to go, let it go. If I could ask the author 1 question it would be what ever happens to Opal’s mom? On a scale of 1-10 I would rate the story a 9 because it was really exciting and funny. For example, it was really exciting when Opal took Winn-Dixie home and got to keep him and the story was really funny when it said Winn-Dixie is a dog that knows how to
Even though there are three stories being told you don’t feel overwhelmed with the information being told to you. All stories are told and paced very well. Skloot’s did her best to tell the story of Henrietta Lacks the why it was told to
A bit frightened by the sight of someone in the night even being in the cemetery, she jumped up, ran into the house and said someone is in the cemetery! Martha Perkins Jackson said, oh that is Horace’s sister Nanch. She walks the back woods behind the school and stops by for coffee in the evening. She appeared at the door just as Martha said, dress wet with the evening due up to her knees and seemingly unfazed by the wetness laying on her legs just wanting her evening cup of coffee.

Everyone has done something in their life that they have deeply regretted and mostly refer back to their childhood. However, from a young age a person may not understand the issue until they grow into an adult. The author, Susan Perabo shows this to be especially true in her short story “The Payoff”. The use of the main characters Anne and Louise reveal how unwise a young mind can be in realizing the most simple of things. However, through the use of these characters an important message is suddenly conveyed over the story.
The main character in the story “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” written by Joyce Carol Oates, is a fifteen-year-old girl named Connie. This character appears to be a typical teenager who feels misunderstood by her family. The relationship with her family causes her to live two different lives “Everything about her had two sides to it, one for home and one for anywhere that was not home.” (86) Connie’s dual lifestyle and inability to communicate with her family will eventually lead to her demise.
A lot of symbolism is used in the book and can completely change the story’s meaning by implying different hidden meanings to the story. To begin with, the dog's name was, “White Dog” (p9-12). The girl’s favorite song on the radio was “Don’t Fence Me In” and “The Dark Stain” at the Joe Lundy’s place, that “would not go away” (pg 5) have a much bigger meaning. The “dark stain” foreshadows that

Offended and unwanted, Curley’s wife turns the tables against Crooks and insults him by saying: “well, you keep your place then, n*****. When Candy found Curley’s wife half-hidden among the straw, lying still, he came to found out his dreams were taken from him.
They all face discrimination and it makes a hard task, achieving their American Dream, almost impossible. Curley’s Wife, Candy, and Crooks all have an American Dream, but they never achieve it. There is a common saying of “two sides to the same coin” that has been used by individuals to describe how one person, place, or idea may seem to be one entity, but in reality is another. This idea that there are two different sides of the same idea is considered irony which helps create a comedic tone in the situation. In the context of the short story, “Good Country People,” by Flannery O’Connor, many of the characters are described as being “good country people,” as the title indicates. Characters such as Hulga and Manley Pointer, two of the main characters in the short story, each have an initial identity that carries them throughout the story until new information is discovered by the end of the narrative. This new information creates
