Becoming A Pediatrician Nurse Practitioner

A pediatric nurse is most commonly known as a registered nurse that specializes in the healthcare of young children. While this is correct, pediatric nurses are so much more. These nurses specifically deal with many aspects of a child’s life. From emergency to psychological care, pediatric nurses are present from the moment a child enters the world until the day they reach adulthood. They constantly assist doctors, but all in all, spend the most one-on-one time with these young patients and their families. Therefore, these nurses must have a caring and compassionate nature to physically and mentally assist their young patients. As a pediatric nurse, you do many things, including direct care, informing patient’s and their families about their different options, setting up specialized treatment plans, monitoring the condition of patient’s and much more. In this position, you will be working with children of all ages from infancy, to toddlers, and all the way up to adolescents.

The first eight years of my life, I spent in India where I was born. Growing up I was constantly reminded by my parents that I needed to make them proud by getting a good job and living a good lifestyle. They told me this because they did not want to see me live a hard life like they did. When I was nine years old, I moved from India to the United States of America. The reason why I moved to America was not because I was living a bad life in India, it was so that I could have a better education and more opportunities in life. When I came to America, I had to go through much struggle. First and the most important was that I did not know how to speak English. Apart from this I was very shy, so I didn’t communicate with people frequently.

I started working in the health care field five years ago as a CNA. My goals have changed slightly as I have been in school. I now want to become a Nurse Practitioner. My plan is to finish at York County with a Health Studies Associate and then move onto my BSN than to an NP. The challenges I face while on this journey is exhaustion. I work over-time every week and I sleep a max of three hours most of the time. I have support from family and friends. They watch my wonderful nine month old son while I’m away. It’s a challenge for me to be away from him so much of the time. I make time to spend with him every day. When he smiles at me I am reminded that, I am doing what is best for both of us. Coming from a third world country where there aren’t many opportunities for work and funding for education, proceding to nursing school was a grand opportunity. The privilege to attend a government subsidized school where top students in the region compete to get into the program that allowed only 60 students per year was indeed a blessing. As clinical rotations began, what was once considered a mere opportunity evolved into a true passion for caring as I truly love and enjoy nursing and helping people.

In December of 2008, I completed a Certified Nursing Assistant and Patient Care Technician course at Pima Community College in Tucson, AZ. I applied for my CNA License after passing my exam but, was denied at that time. The state board stated that not enough time after absolute discharge had passed for a 2001 felony conviction (I needed to wait 5 years after complete discharge and it had only been 4 years). Even though I did not get my CNA license at the time, I was still given a chance to work at a local hospital as a PCT, because a CNA license was not required for employment and I had already received my Level One Fingerprint Clearance card under the Good Cause Exemption from Arizona Department of Pubic Safety. My educational goal is to graduate from college and get my bachelor 's degree in Pediatric Nursing. This reason why I say this is because graduating from college is a huge accomplishment. Graduating from high school and going to college is a huge stepping stone because you 're starting a new chapter in your life. Think about it, you are going through 4 years of learning about a major that you are passionate about and wanting to have a career is the biggest motivational drive, What you’re passionate about can be your drive to finish college because wouldn’t you want a career?

I am a firm believer that in order to be happy and successful, you need to have a job that you love to do. This ideology is what motivated me to want to become a nurse practitioner and help the people in my community. Attending California State University, Los Angeles is allowing me to pursue my academic goal of getting into the nursing program. I aspire to get my bachelors of science in nursing to be able to become a registered nurse. After gaining experience as a registered nurse, I will pursue a master of science in nursing to become a nurse practitioner. A job as a nurse practitioner will allow me to look forward to going to work every day because I know it is something I will love to do. Once I have gained experience as a nurse practitioner and have a stable job as one, I will pursue a doctorate of science in nursing. Being able to treat and help patients fascinates me, therefore every step I take will be worth it.

In the world of college, there are many majors or professions to choose from. Whatever career I choose to take, I know that there are many doors open for me to walk through. Planning for life after high school, I am considering going into the medical field to become a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Nurse (NICU).

The health career that I am most intrigued with is a certified registered nurse anesthesist or for short, CRNA. In the United States, a certified registered nurse anesthesist is an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) who has acquired graduate-level education and board certification in anesthesia. Certified registered nurse anesthesists are the primary providers of anesthesia care in rural America, enabling healthcare facilities in these medically underserved areas to offer obstetrical, surgical, pain management and trauma stabilization services. Nursing, the one job everyone says that is so fulling, and will change your perspective on the world forever. I wanted to be a nurse since the time I was 10 years old, because I saw what they do for others every day. Becoming a nurse was so important to me because, I wanted to do something in my career that is interesting, challenging, and makes a difference in people's lives on a daily basis. The one person who always told me I can do whatever I wanted in life was my mom. My mom was my number one supporter, and always told everyone how excited she was for me to fulfill my dreams of becoming a nurse. Being a nurse in general is one of the most important jobs in the world.You can either make or break someone's life at anytime.. I know that nursing in general can be very stressful and can also take up most of your time, but it will make you feel a lot better knowing that you just saved someone's life. I have seen nurses help my family members in their best times and also their worst times. Since I was little I have always wanted a job to where I am constantly helping people get back on their feet. Seeing these nurses take care of my family the way they did make me want to become that one day! There are many different branches in the medical field, and the one I'm most interested in is being a Flight Nurse or a trauma nurse.

I have always thought about working in the medical field, but where was the question. I started looking at the field of nursing. My mom works as a nurse so it was obvious that I start there. From my research I found out all of the great things about being a nurse. This research answered my question. Nursing offers endless opportunities to anyone and it is one of the only fields that will always be in demand.

Also, I am going to start getting paid when I am still doing my schooling because you have to start as a Registered Nurse. I would work to improve my patients and their family’s community and make them feel happy and healthy. They would be able to trust me and feel protected when they are around me to make my job easier. The biggest reason I chose this career is because I love children. I would love to help them and bond with them. If I am able to bond with the children, I would be able to work with them about their health. Being a Pediatric Nurse will take plenty of knowledge, but since this is what I want to do, I will accomplish the goals that need to be met in my career. Some of the daily responsibilities for this job are, educating patients’ families and caregivers about procedures, treatments and other types of medical care, providing support and guidance to young patients, communicating with pediatricians and other medical professional, recording patient vital statistics, symptoms and other medical information, monitoring patient growth and development, administrating treatment plans and medicine, and operate monitoring equipment.
