By winning this scholarship, I could follow my dreams and make an impact on the world. I would make my parents even prouder because they never had the opportunity to further their education past high school. Never would they have imagined going to school let alone attending college but because of them I was able to attend school, graduate high school, and attend college. I am the best candidate for this scholarship because I have experienced a hard and unwanted event, but I have grown from it and become a better and stronger person because of my parents, which will help me power through college and become a civil lawyer. My mom and dad although divorced, have supported me through every event in my life, making me the person I am today. Living with my mom, I have learned how hard it really is to do things that my dad would have done in a heartbeat. As I grew up knowing that my dad was not coming back through the back door as I hoped, I learned how hard life really is and how life is not fair.
All my life I had dreamed of following in my mother 's footsteps and becoming a UConn Huskie. I had watched every UConn sporting event with my parents for as long as I can remember. I 've acquired many autographs of players over the years and even obtained a basketball signed by Jim Calhoun. I remember the devastation I felt when I learned the major I was pursuing was not offered at UConn. I had graduated high school convinced I was going to be an accomplished architect.
Scholarship is a student's accomplishment in the classroom. It is the motivation to pursue higher-level information acquisition. My actions are guided by this inner urge to reach my ultimate objective. It is this push, which I think of as self-discipline or a powerful motivation, that continues urging me to continue on the path until I make the goal I have set out to do. I came to the realization that having the appropriate mentality was critical in order to attain my full potential on the first day of high school.
Then dream bigger. Dream big and then dream bigger because Scholarship can be much more than just getting straight A's. This is because in my family no one has a degree except my father. My father was a teacher, and always encourages me and my brothers to get a career. For my brothers, having a career is very hard, and they believe that school is very difficult to concentrate. Now I am sure that my father will be very proud of me one day after getting my degree. Another example is that my niece Karen sees me as a role model.
Jesse Owens once said, “[w]e all have dreams. But in order to make that dream a reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort.” The dreams that I have for my life aren’t going happen overnight, they are going to take time, determination, self-discipline, and effort. Along with taking time and effort, I’m going to take my personal qualities and put them to work. I believe I’m a good applicant for this scholarship because I have good work ethic, good relationships with people, but I also have good characteristics including being goal oriented.

I can contribute my hard work to the Honors College community. I think that I am hardworking and I love to work with others to help solve problems because two heads are always better than one. I would contribute my ideas to the lessons and help others when they need it. I love to be able to work with other people outside my comfort zone and be able to hear their ideas and combine ideas to come up with something that will benefit everyone in the community.
This scholarship is a wonderful opportunity for students of GVSU, and I am honored to be considered for this scholarship. I believe that I am a great applicant for this scholarship, and that I deserve this scholarship. One reason I deserve this scholarship is because of my strong academic courses. Throughout my high school career, I pushed myself academically by taking a total of 10 AP classes and 7 honors classes. These classes were all challenging, yet I pushed through with determination to complete the classes to the best of my ability.
