Befrienders is a Non-profit Organization (NGO) in Malaysia. A group of pioneer Malaysians was so concerned about the emotional well-being of the community in 1970 especially after the occurrence of communal riots on the 13th May 1969. Without further doubt, Befrienders Kuala Lumpur was established with the assistance of professional psychiatrists and psychologists from University Hospital, Kuala Lumpur. The Befrienders is modeled after Samaritans, a movement began in London in 1953. Throughout the years, the movement has officially spread to about 40 countries and now it has 300 centers all around the world. The Befrienders is a hotline service providing emotional support to the depressed and suicidal through the telephone, e-mail and face to face counseling. The goal of Befrienders to provide emotional support to the distressed and the suicidal at all times, also, to become a suicide prevention resource centre. The vision of Befrienders is to become a world in which fewer people feel the need to end their own lives. Furthermore, the objectives of Befrienders are 1. All the factors that brought depression to one person can lead he or she to kill their own. How terrible it is when someone bringing their life down in order escapes from this reality world. The Malaysian National Suicide Registry statistics shows that the ratio of suicides from 2007 to 2010 was 1.3 for every 100,000 people, but it could be higher as the figure was based only on post-mortem reports. The majority of those who died of suicide were aged between 24 and 44 years old. The statistics also showed that younger people aged 16 to 24 years, females and Indians have higher risk of suicidal behavior. If everyone have the basic knowledge towards committing suicide and contribute to improve it, this would be a better world without people killing
