An outsider is a person who does not belong in a certain party or a group. An outsider is left out from parties, groups, and even sometimes they are not allowed near a place or person. Outsiders are not cool and people do not like them or are not drawn to them. Synonyms such as the odd one out, stranger, and refugee say it all. All of these words are example of what outsiders feel like or what outsiders are.

Currently I am an insider in my group of friends. I could make some of the other kids involved, but sometimes the other kids want to be in our group. They do not show it sometimes though. Ponyoby Curtis from the novel The Outsiders by S.E Hinton has a hard time deciding which identity he finds more important; whether it's his family or his academic standards, or his gang and their stereotypes. In the end however, Ponyboy realizes that his group identity is more important to him than how he thinks of himself. To begin, Ponyboy's self-identity constructs his personality and his emotions, and how others view him.
In the book In a ROCKET MADE of Ice the children of Wat Opot community felt like outsiders because they have HIV/AIDS. They were being sold, stranded, unloved by their families, and being raped by people they love. They felt like people would not accept them because of their past. Most of the children were placed in a community shelter called Wat Opot; there they formed a bond with one another. They found family, and lived outside of fear or judgment.
