No person who is qualified as handicapped in the United States shall be excluded from participation, be denied benefits of or be discriminated under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance by reason of his or her handicap. Nobody should be discriminated or excluded from benefiting under any program or activity funded by the federal just because they are handicapped. According to my understanding, diversity entails a state of differences in several ways and even the physical abilities and status of individuals. Diversity requires an understanding of this different ways and treating people equally regardless of these individual differences. The quote about “handicap people are being excluded from the participation in” is
Through all this work, Justin Dart came to the conclusion that the judgement towards disabled people created a toxic relationship disabled and abled individuals and decided to end this. In his explanation for why the ADA was so significant for the disabled, Justin said “It will proclaim to America and to the world that people with disabilities are fully human; that paternalistic, discriminatory, segregationist attitudes are no longer acceptable; and that henceforth people with disabilities must be accorded the same personal respect and the same social and economic opportunities as other people.” (Paragraph 7) The fact that at one point disabled individuals were treated with disrespect, really shows through this quote and emphasizes that this was a great injustice that needed to be ended. The injustice that occurred was that people with disabilities in America were treated poorly and did not have equal rights.
Reason for Assessment: Joe was referred for an Assistive Technology Assessment due to parent request as part of the special education services. His mother reports concerns for Joe’s organization. Joe has a history of academic difficulties due to attention related challenges. Joe is considered eligible for special education services under the eligibility criteria for Other Health Impaired (OHI). This is due to characteristics of an Attention Deficit Disorder that manifests itself in a heightened alertness to environmental stimuli that results in a limited alertness to the educational environment, which is adversely affecting Joe's educational performance.
We think it’s common sense to say hello to your neighbor, hold the door open for the person behind you, or even sit next to someone in class, but that has not always been the case. At one point in time, civil rights was not for everyone. We all remember the women suffering and the african-americans being segregated, but most forget how hard the disabled community worked to be treated as equals. By utilizing the strategies of previous civil rights movements, the American Disabilities Act (ADA) wanted to extend basic civil rights to the disabled community. It started in 1973 with Section 504 which helped people to recognize that even though there are many different variations, the disabled are a legitimate minority who are subjected to discrimination
In “The Social Construction of Disability,” Susan Wendell briefly discusses how the fast pace of American life impacts the social construction of disability through an inability for people with “disabilities” to maintain expectations of a high-performance level. Wendell also claims that the pace of life causes disability in many people’s lives, but quickly moves on to another topic, referencing chapter four of Barbara Hillyer’s Feminism and Disability in the footnotes as a place for more information on this argument. In Hillyer’s chapter “Productivity and Pace,” she writes to the feminist and disability communities, analyzing how the pace of life affects them both in similar ways. Through an analysis of how people with disabilities are forced to set their own daily pace, Hillyer hopes to encourage others to learn about the necessity of slowing down.
Diversity is a topic that is very sensitive to society today unfortunately there are people out there who take it to extremes. It’s the uniqueness of an individual who are different in their own way rather it is race, ethnicity, gender, beliefs, and social standing. However, people see others who are different as an alien basically in our society. America is made up of various ethnicities, race, etc basically we are a mixed breed or a mutt, Different cultures came to America to escape the wars and fights that were going on in their country. Our country represents freedom but instead of working together we are fighting each other for being different such as enslaving African Americans.

Introduction Paragraph Hook- Amazing fact, question or quote about the topic: Why is doing the right thing often not the easiest thing to do? Sometimes the choices that we make are difficult because they involve a great deal of sacrifice.
Q: What is your personal statement on diversity? Diversity is being different from others. People have to acknowledge that not everyone is alike in the world. We are different and we have many ways to show that we are unique, ordinary, creative and open minded individuals. Everyone is unique in their own way because knowing the fact that you can show your true colors, is what brings peoples attention to wanting to get to know one another and know more about that unique individual.
Every aspect of the employment process has discriminated against them from advertising vacancy in positions, appointment processes, wages, dismissal and post-employment actions according to the article Disability, Sight Impairment and the Law (C Casserley). When it comes to employment, the visually impaired are placed under the category of being handicapped, which makes them subject to prejudice. Employers are quick to make the assumption that handicapped workers are less productive and more costly to train to those who are not handicapped. Employers are also likely to reduce the wages of their visually impaired employees to compensate for any uncertainty about their productivity and to also compensate for the costs of hiring and training these individuals. “Civil rights advocates allege that because discrimination limits job opportunities, firms that hire handicapped workers can exploit them through slower promotions and lower pay increases than those of non-handicapped workers” (William G Johnson).
And a disabled person’s ambition is like all other human beings, the looks of pity and compassion negatively affect that ambition. People should embrace the disabled person and give them a helping hand, and they should have laws, which defend their rights, which should be respected. However, most societies do not have laws that ensure an equal life for the disabled population. It is a shame that the rights of the disabled people has turned many times to mere slogans.
