Benchmark Assignment: Ethical Dilemmas Ethical Dilemmas situations a person faces which there is two options to be made, neither which solves the situation in a moral manor. Many people face ethical dilemma each and every day that can conflict with their worldview. Addictions are considered an ethical dilemma. There are many types of addictions such as substance abuse, gambling, shopping, video games, and even pornography. Addictions can harm one’s self, family members, friends, and coworkers. This paper will discuss the addiction of pornography affecting a persons’ core beliefs, the solutions to this dilemma, consequences and benefits, comparison between other worldviews and Christian worldview. Christianity believes that fall of humanity entered sin into the world (DiVincenzo p.4). Thus, humanity can be influenced to temptation. According to the book of Timothy “people who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction” (Timothy 1:6-9). Temptation can destroy a Christians ability to reach eternal life (DVincenzo p.11). The Bible does not address pornography because it did not exist during that time period. But it does states several specific sexual acts are forbidden. Sinful physical acts should be avoiding if one is a Christian (Hutchcraft p.1 ). Christianity believes in mental purity. The Christian faith has a strong view on purity Psalm 119 states “How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word’’ (Psalm 119:9). Internet pornography goes against the Christian view on purity. Christians tend to avoid all forms of sexual sin “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food-but God will destroy them both. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body (1 Corinthians 6:13). There is no sin in the Buddhism, but the addiction can cause harmful to one’s self, this it’ll cause suffering or disharmony. Disharmony is against Buddhist faith. Buddhist help pornography addicts by guiding them to meditation. Addiction can bring up powerful emotions such as anxiety, fear, and depression (Ronald Alexander p.4). Meditation can help calm an addict’s emotions. “Mindfulness practice may positively affect the amount of activity in the amygdala, the area in the center of the brain that is responsible for regulating emotions” (Ronald Alexander p. 4). This type of treatment is very different from the Christian worldview. Meditation is another treatment option besides Christian Group
