Animal testing has been involved in medical research for a long time, resulting in an improvement of human health. The benefits of animal testing for medical research outweigh the drawbacks. Although opponents argue that the drawbacks of animal testing outweigh the benefits because animal testing is cruel, in actuality, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks because it saves human lives and is an affordable option. Many opponents argue that one drawback of animal testing is cruelty. They state that animals are subject to dreadful conditions, in the sense that they are restricted from daily activities. Since it is more affordable, scientists can spend less money and use the remaining to create more drugs. According to the Argumentative Essay: Animal Testing, "There is a large supply of animals for medical research." This quote portrays that the drugs are tested on more animals, meaning that they will be more reliable. If all the animals do not have negative reactions, then the drug should be safe for human use. If some animals react badly to the drug, scientists will know that it needs to be altered. Also, these animals are easily replaced. If any of them die during a test, another animal can be used. If more animals are used, there is a higher chance that a cure will be found. Scientists can test numerous drugs on multiple animals until a cure is found. Pertaining to the text, it also states, "Animals are easily bred and maintained safely in controlled labs." It is obvious that these animals are not dangerous and can be tested on easily. Cooperative subjects are easily tested on, without struggling or attacking the tester. Since the animals are easily maintained in controlled labs, it means that there are limited variables that will affect the results. The animals will not have outside factors such as other drugs, nutrition, etc. They are easily monitored in these labs, and adjustments to the drug can be easily made. The opponents ' evidence is unreliable in that the studies of animal testing were conducted in 2010, and since then, laws and techniques have been changed to help prevent animal cruelty. Since laws have been implemented, scientists are taking precautions to prevent animal cruelty. It is obvious that these precautions are yielding good results because cures are being found. Additionally, it would be even more cruel to test on humans as well as more expensive. There are many consequences to human testing. Finding a human who is willing to be tested on would take a longer time than to find animals. In that time, many people could have suffered or died because medication was not yet created. Also, if the humans being tested on died, scientists would be facing many lawsuits. The human population may even go down if they are used for testing. This would lead to many problems in the economy on top of the price to pay for human testing. Without animal testing, not only would people with diseases suffer, but the entire world could suffer, proving the presented point that the benefits of animal testing outweigh the drawbacks. Although opponents argue that the drawbacks of animal testing outweigh the benefits because animal testing is cruel, in actuality, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks because it saves human lives and is an affordable
