Critical thinking is an ability and willingness to carry out theoretical evaluation and objective evaluation based on sufficient rational and objective facts. It is not only a kind of negative thinking but also an ability to create and construct——giving different explanations of one thing select, thinking about the significance of the results, and be able to use the new knowledge to solve social and personal problems. Firstly, in academic performance, critical thinking is helpful in understanding others’ arguments and beliefs and evaluating those arguments and beliefs critically. What’s more, critical thinking compels employees and managers to think about the situation and all possible solutions before reaching to the final answer. Critical thinking exercises make colleagues seriously stand in others’ point of view and viewpoint which can help then to be considerate of each other. One of the benefits of critical thinking is that your company can provide different feasible solutions to the same issue. At the same time, your clients will have varieties of solutions to choose and they can find a satisfactory one much easier. Thirdly, critical thinking is useful in daily life as well. It prevents us from making stupid personal decisions and facilitates a concerned and informed citizenry capable of making correct decisions on important political, social and economic issues. Since 1980s, the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Philippines, and even developing countries such as Venezuela, have regarded "critical thinking" as one of the goals of higher education. The title of first rule of “The declaration of higher education for the twenty-first Century: ideas and action” which is published on "The World Conference on Higher Education" (Paris, October 1998 5 - 9) is "The mission of education and training: cultivate critical and independent attitude". And the fifth education reform “critical thinking and creativity” pointed out that institutions of higher education are supposed to teach students to become a citizen with a wide range of knowledge and a strong commitment. They are supposed to think critically, analyze problems, find solutions to social problems and have social responsibility.
