Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17, 1706 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was one of twenty-seven children. Franklin’s father, Josiah Franklin, had seventeen children with his first wife and ten children with his second wife. Benjamin Franklin’s early education ended at the age of ten when he was pulled out of the Boston Latin School to work for his father. Franklin’s father was a candle and soap maker, who wanted his sons to learn a trade. At the age of twelve, Franklin was apprenticed by his father to his brother, James, who was a printer.
