They both are very courageous. They have a lot of self-confidence, are very strong, loyal plus they both have beards. Hercules and my dad are also very protective they won’t let anyone do anything to hurt their loved ones. Hercules was very wise and so is my dad. Hercules hunted and killed monsters. Heroes can be men, women, animals, or even objects that inspires your soul and mind. The world of heroes is a huge world full of dreams and challenges that anyone can be part of if it he believed in his abilities. “Hero” is a simple word with many great and valuable meanings; he is the one who faces his challenges and obstacles without any fear or worry, as Zachary Hamby says that “Obstacles make them stronger, preparing them for their final showdown” (3). When people think of heroes they imagine supernatural creatures that god have created to save their lives from danger. A hero is an example of courage, insistence, and selfness.
It is the nature of epic poems to include a single or many characters that are the said ‘hero’ of the story; such is true in Homer’s The Odyssey. Though there are many versions of Batman throughout the world, most of them are an excellent representation of a beloved comic book or TV Show hero without the aid of superpowers. Both Odysseus and Batman share the qualities of a natural hero,
Beowulf and Achilles are excellent examples of the hero in Anglo Saxon culture. Both men exemplify basic manly virtues such as physical strength, courage and martial prowess, and both exhibit leadership and command respect among their peers. Nevertheless both characters possess flaws and weaknesses that make them human, and which lead to their eventual deaths. Achilles and Beowulf show many similar traits throughout both of their stories. These traits that were displayed in both of their stories proved shat type of heroes and men they were.
unlike Lancelot, The Knight of the Cart, Beowulf was not full of a want for the love of somebody else, but is instead an epic poem of a man with amazing strength, and power. With battles fought against monsters, and dragons for glory. Although the theme may have been different for these stories. The main characters shared a lot of the same heroic traits. For instance, Lancelot who was the most legendary of the round table for his strength in combat, and courageous determination.
Heroes are a major part in any story no matter how clear their heroism is. In the case of the characters, Beowulf and Sir Gawain, they are considered to be heroes. However, they are two different types of heroes even though they both show the key attributes that make them considered to be heroes; Beowulf is the brave idealistic hero whereas Sir Gawain is a noble knight who is also modest and cares a lot about what people think of him so much so that he tells a lie to keep up his reputation. In the epic poem Beowulf, the character Beowulf hears about a monster named Grendel tormenting the land Heorot, so “he announced his plan: to sail the swan’s road and seek out that king, the famous prince who needed defenders” to help fight the monster. (David and Simpson, Beowulf 46) Once there he defeats Grendel without any weapons, just his bravery, and strength.
When Bilbo finds the ring it changes him forever, for he is able to do things he would have never done before or even dream of doing. When Bilbo faces tough situations the ring always gets him by, and after he has come out the victor, he feels accomplished and more confident of his skills. After going through this process countless times his skills in battle and intelligence increase, as well as his self esteem and respect. The ring in this specific book symbolizes change. Bilbo’s change from a hesitant, powerless hobbit to a confident human being capable of most anything.
The journey that Bilbo endures transforms him into a hero. Bilbo encounters many tests and trials throughout the story which reveal character. These courageous actions display the heroic character of Bilbo. Throughout The Hobbit, Bilbo displays the universal message that anyone can develop into a hero. Even the smallest and seemingly weakest creatures and people can become as great as Bilbo.
“A hero is an ordinary person who has found the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming difficulties”-Christopher Reeve. For that very reason, Odysseus is a hero. He is neither immortal nor god, but merely a mortal like everyone else. His determination to return home with his family once again is what motivated him to complete the treacherous journey. To be a hero like Odysseus is to be talented, brave, caring.
Christopher Reeve (AKA the 1978 superman) said that, “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles”. Both Beowulf and Modern day heroes are similar in that way in that they fight for the common good of people. That quote from Christopher Reeves on what a modern day hero is, also applies to the epic hero qualities that Beowulf has. Similarly Beowulf and a modern day hero defeat an evil so that good can prevail. Some examples are, Beowulf Slaying Grendel and Grendel's mother to save the land of the Danes, and soldiers fighting enemies that threaten the lives of a country, and police officers putting criminals behind bars.
Being a hero is not only about saving people and risking your life for others, but it is much more. A hero is admired for his outstanding courage and continuous achievements and someone worthy of our praise. However, heroes are not only those things. Heroes have fear, even if they overcome them, and those fears allow the hero to grow confidence and become better. All heroes are very smart and cunning and can work themselves around anything and everything with the best end in mind.
