The issue that causes the most anger for many breeders is when people ignore how much health testing they do for their dogs. Many people believe that health testing is a wonderful way to prevent many genetic diseases. Health testing looks at the genes of an animal and searches for impurities, therefore, if an impurity is found the animal is not used for breeding to ensure it does not pass down that disease (Peck). There are a lot of breeders who believe that this fact is overlooked when people who are anti-purebreds make their arguments. Stephanie Poot was one breeder who was extremely offended after reading an article that slandered dog breeders and responded with an article called “Dog Breeder Offended” in which she calls out the article that made her and fellow breeders out to be monsters.
Most of us have pets and consider them part of the family. As a result, we could never imagine the horror some animals are forced to endure at the hands of their caretakers. This particular ad depicts a powerful visual of a neglected dog, in poor health, chained to what seems to be a barrel. The copy in the ad, while minimal, is powerful: “Help Us Help them” and the words “Donate Today” (ASPCA). This ad is a public service announcement to bring awareness to the community concerning the horrors of animal abuse, its helpless victims, and to compel the public to make a financial donation to put an end to animal cruelty.
Adopting an animal from the shelter has many benefits for not only you but also for animals. INTRODUCTION I. (Attention) Approximately 8 million animals enter shelters every year. And, roughly 2.6 million dogs and cats are killed in U.S. shelters annually. ("Statistics", n.d.) II. (Reveal Topic) Just hearing those statistics is alarming to me, this is why I feel everyone should consider adopting not shopping for pets.
These pets are sent to shelters where they reproduce which results in more pets in the shelter. The shelter then has to euthanize the animals that are extra or they have to send these animals to a non-profit organization that will take care of them. American Humane Association also supports research to assess the causes for pet abandonment. Old research studies suggest that 7 to 20 percent of pets entering a home are no longer in that home six months after acquisition. These animals often end up at shelters, contributing to the pet “overpopulation” issue.
While adopting a dog, people did not think about the consequences they would bring to their neighborhood, they only think about their future happy life. Meanwhile, because people can not predict the long term impact of keeping a dog, they can not encourage this behavior. People should take fully consideration before taking action and think about the long-term consequences, and do not define the behavior to be right or not. For instance, Dalai mentions that “In medicine, for instance, the drug thalidomide was found to be excellent for the treatment of morning sickness in pregnant women, but its long-term
A big part of the problem lies with the lack of government funds for the animal shelters in Puerto Rico. The government only provides $1.5 million in seed funding to create animal services for all 78 municipalities. All the while these animal shelters are filled to capacity, which means the death rate goes up for these “rescued” dogs so only a handful more can be picked up off the streets. There are about two hundred thousand dogs roaming the streets and neighborhoods along the island. In Puerto Rico, there are at least 500 dogs euthanized each day, while in the United States there are 1.2 million dogs each year.
People say negative things on the media so if others see it, they believe it’s true and just believe what others think, but in reality it shouldn’t work like that. Humans say things poorly about pitbulls that give them a bad reputation, therefore these dogs end up in animal shelters. “Researchers found that potential pet owners were less likely to take home a dog if shelters called it a pit bull because the breed is negatively perceived and considered less friendly and more aggressive than other breeds,” (Source F). It takes pitbulls almost three times longer to be adopted from animal shelters. A lot of people just believe pits are mean and can hurt you based off of their past.
These help SpokAnimal, with their ability to increase community involvement because these newsletters, contain information about what events SpokAnimal is holding and how people can participate in them. Weaknesses: The first weakness that SpokAnimal has when it comes to increasing community involvement, is that many people are allergic to cats and dog, and therefore fear volunteering due to the symptoms they may experience. The second weakness that SpokAnimal has when it comes to increasing community involvement, is that SpokAnimal is lacking in their advertising of alternative community involvement, such as their Planned Giving which “provide[s] the resources that create extraordinary opportunities and preserve [their] future while also helping [the public] to achieve [their] own financial objectives (SpokAnimal, 2015). Opportunities:
During the construction phase a lot of wild dogs got used to live in the city. They fed themselves with the food left by the workers. Not long before the beginning of the Olympic games the workers left the sites but the dogs did not and the Russian government was scared that spectators could encounter them. To “delete” this problem, they hired a private company. Alexei Sorokin, the company owner explained that they had to catch the dogs and do whatever they wanted with them.
Predators are like robbers of their prey’s life. Once one is caught, predators never let go. While some may argue that being in a zoo will affect an animal’s hunting skills, it’s not always the best plan to let endangered animals free in the wild. It stands to reason that society should continue keeping our animals safe from danger in
So it is hard for them to save some animals because treatment is not cheap and they have an overabundance of animals that they want to save but sometimes cannot. With more donation dollars, more and more animals will be able to be saved. Also, you may ask, “ There are a lot of other organizations that post videos about saving animals. What makes Vet Ranch different”? The difference is that some organizations that have T.V shows receive donations and the funds that they make from the show whereas Vet Ranch only gets money from donations, and without the donations would not be able to run at all.
Margulis was in awe at the progress of the humane society once the new building was built. Many families started to adopt the animals and she reminisced that, “treating animals with a lot of respect, this is the key to all this hard work”. All of her hard work had finally, after years of effort, payed off. Margulis recalls “I love saving badly treated little beings, that’s the best thing I could hope for”. She believes that although humans are important, not enough respect and care is paid towards animals and helping them is one of the best things she could do for the community.
