Imagine yourself surfing in the warm waters of Hawaii with your friends. You are lying on your surfboard while you wait for the surf to pick up again. Suddenly you feel a sharp pain and a violent tugging, Your left arm is gone and the water around you is red. This is what Bethany Hamilton went through on the morning of October 31, 2003 when she was only 13 years old. In this essay I will be describing what happened to Bethany on that dreadful day and how she was able to stay optimistic, be strong, and how she continued to have faith in Christ. Isabella Baumfree protested when John Dumont , Isabella Baumfree 's previous owner whom she ran away from, sold her son, Peter, to a family in Alabama. Two white lawyers, whom we don 't know the name of, in New York gave Baumfree free legal help and liberated Peter through the courts. Sojourner Truth moved to Battle Creek, Michigan, in 1857 and became active there helping black people escape on the Underground Railroad to freedom.
On July 20th 2005, tragedy struck which changed author Kimberley William’s life for years to come. Her son, Caleb Williams, went down to the Snoqualmie River and plummeted nearly 20 feet from a rope swing to the rocks below which caused a traumatic brain injury. The months following the accident tested the patience and faith of the family as Caleb lay in a comatose state. Although he lay in this state of unconsciousness for months, the family relied on God who continuously displayed his omnipotence in the healing process. The year was 1804 the 47 year old Hamilton died by the hand of Aaron Burr. Burr challenged Hamilton to a duel where he then lost his life. At Weehawken, New Jersey is where the fight went down. At the time Hamilton was wearing his glasses and Burr though he was going to take dealdey aim so Burr shot him right between the ribs. Hamilton was then taken back to New York where he died.
All she had to do was try. One day, some of Bethany’s friends were planning on going surfing, so Bethany wanted to come and watch. Once she arrived, she knew that surfing was too tempting, so she decided to go on her board (Hamilton 177). For Bethany, stepping into that water for the first time felt like stepping back home (Hamilton 180). Once Bethany was in the water, her mind was set on catching a wave and getting on her feet.
Bethany Hamilton is extremely resilient because she was confident, very determined to push herself harder, and brave throughout her tragedy. Bethany got attacked by a tiger shark Halloween 2003 at the age of 13. She was an elite amateur surfer. It was a shock to Bethany and her family when she was attacked and now left with only one arm. Bethany was very brave before and after the attack.
It was a beautiful sunny day and Edis was preparing for his boat rowing team meet at the peter jay boat house on the Hudson river. He was super exited to be rowing that day because the weather was perfect and he knew the waves would be easy to handle. If only he knew what was coming. When edis got to the team meet, his coach decided to go over a few drills and techniques in the water. So edis and his eight other teammates got in to the boat, and secured their feet tightly to the bottom so no one could end up flying out.
In the movie, “Soul Surfer”, Bethany Hamilton lost her arm to a shark. She was unhappy with this change, but finally got used to it after helping someone out. She helped a little boy who was afraid to get back into the water due to a tsunami overcome his fear and get back in. By helping the boy, she realized that surfing isn’t the only thing that she can do in life. This is important because she finally clicked and it helped her out.

Bethany win launched her professional career fulfilling her lifelong dream. Bethany is an elite surfer now. Bethany had been good at surfing since she was 5 years old.
She survived the waves, and she did what nobody could really do. She had nearly no hope, yet hope had her. She fought and killed at the chance of death, but with remorse in the end after realizing some weren’t really actually against her. One person she thought had a gun, in which the glint she saw that she assumed was a knife or gun was really a necklace with a cross on it; but that is what the Others caused. The others was the name for the extraterrestrial beings.
Then I remembered that I was no longer that little girl who couldn 't swim. I was the adult in charge of saving people 's lives. I quickly dove down to rescue the helpless body. We resurfaced and she was coughing, but still alive and breathing. Until that moment, I never fully understood how much pressure lifeguards are under.
